60 people likely killed in a stampede in Uttar Pradesh, India

ALBAWABA - Authorities said that 60 people were likely killed in a stampede while they were attending a religious event in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

Reuters reported, citing Manish Chikara, a district police spokesperson, that a specific number is not out yet, however, it is estimated to be around 60. "I can't give the exact toll at the moment, but it is approximately 60 ... There is a possibility that the toll may go up,".

Crowds had gathered in Hathras hamlet, around 140 kilometers southeast of New Delhi, to commemorate the Hindu deity Shiva.

Hathras police reported the fatalities comprised 23 women, three children, and a male. He claimed more than 150 individuals were brought to hospitals following the stampede, and the death toll might grow.
