Meet the Mets
The Mets bested the Nationals 9-7 in 10 innings. The game was tied 3-3 into the tenth, when J.D. Martinez untied it with a three-run homer to dead center to bust out of an 0-for-12 slump. Francisco Alvarez hit his first career triple to drive home a run, and José Iglesias hit his first homer as a Met to make it 9-3. As it were, the Mets needed every bit of those runs, as Tyler Jay made it interesting in the bottom of the frame before Reed Garrett came in to record the final out.
