'metal gear is dead' says fan in konami survey but they're in the minority

Metal Gear Not So Solid, according to some fans (Konami)

Konami has revealed the results of its fan survey for the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater trailer, and although it’s mostly positive there are some who really hate it.

Most Metal Gear fans are eagerly awaiting Konami’s remake of 2004’s acclaimed Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which was announced last year and renamed Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Although one insider claimed that it had been pushed back to 2025, GameStop accidentally leaked that its release date is later this year.

The first gameplay trailer was shown during the recent Xbox Games Showcase and it looks very promising, but according to Konami’s own feedback there are some fans who very much think the opposite.

In the name of transparency, Konami decided to show fan feedback of the trailer, even the bad comments, such as, ‘Metal Gear is dead, and you’re the ones who killed it.’

Konami sent out a survey alongside the release of the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater trailer, and went through the results in a YouTube video.

Producer Noriaki Okamura said that they received ‘very supportive messages’. but ‘while we did get positive feedback, we had plenty of critical responses and requests as well’.

Okamura went through the data, which showed that 52% of fans thought the trailer was ‘very good’, while 31% said ‘good’. Only 13% said it was ‘okay’, 1% voted it was ‘bad’, and 3% thought it was ‘very bad’.

The producer then showed a slide including some of the comments from the survey, 24% of which were positive, 11% negative, and 65% neutral, although there were some damning ones in there.

‘You can’t even do a simple remaster right,’ said one fan.

Another fan said: ‘Metal Gear is dead, and you’re the ones who killed it.’

A third fan commented, ‘You’ll probably do a bad job on the next game too, so I’d rather you just give up.’

It’s unclear why any of them had such a negative reaction to the trailer, which has otherwise gone down well with most people.
