Holger Rune hits out at Boris Becker over ‘super strange’ Patrick Mouratoglou question

holger rune hits out at boris becker over ‘super strange’ patrick mouratoglou question

Boris Becker and Holger Rune

Holger Rune responded to his former coach Boris Becker after the tennis legend asked if he was still working with Patrick Mouratoglou given the Frenchman’s absence from his team at Wimbledon.

The Danish star feels it is “super strange” Becker did not ask him the question directly and clarified that Mouratoglou remains his coach.

Rune reunited with Mouratoglou in February, having split with both Becker and Roger Federer’s former coach Severin Luthi early in the season. Luthi — who departed at the end of January — had only been appointed in December, while Becker — who left in February — had been hired in October.

Mouratoglou coached Rune from October 2022 to August 2023, with a very brief break in the spring of 2023, helping him win the 2022 Paris Masters and finish as a runner-up in Monte Carlo and Rome.

Rune will begin his campaign at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships with a first round match against world No 367 Soonwoo Kwon today.

Holger Rune’s form needs fixing as Queen’s loss extends underwhelming run

The world No 15, who has been ranked as high as fourth, is looking for a strong result in what has been a somewhat underwhelming season to date. He could face seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in the last 16 in a potential blockbuster.

The 21-year-old reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last year and was beaten by eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

In a post on X, Becker highlighted the fact Mouratoglou was not with Rune at Wimbledon and tagged the pair’s accounts as he questioned if they had parted ways.

The six-time Grand Slam winner wrote: “Quick question: I see @pmouratoglou in London but NOT with @holgerrune2003 at @Wimbledon…they are still working together?!?

In a reply to Becker’s tweet, Rune took issue with the German’s method of posing the question, but gave his former coach the information he was looking for.

“Super strange you don’t ask me this question directly as we text together about other stuff,” posted the Dane.

” The answer to your question is yes we work together. Sharing the tournaments between us as planned.”
