60 Second City: Halifax, Nova Scotia! #60secondcities #halifax #novascotia #geography #travel
We're off to Canada's largest East Coast city, Halifax. Welcome to another episode of 62nd Cities, the quick video series that takes you around the world in less than a minute. Halifax is the capital and most populous city in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It exists next to the Bedford Basin, a mostly enclosed Bay with only a narrow exit to the Atlantic Ocean. Halifax is home to 350,000 people in the city and 466,000 people in the metropolitan area, making it the 12th largest metro region in Canada. But the largest on the East Coast, the city was founded in 1749 by Britain and kicked off the Father La Lutres War, the precursor to the much larger French and Indian War between France and its Native American allies and Great Britain and its colonies. For climate, Halifax has warm summers and relatively mild winters, which is primarily due to the Gulf Stream's moderating effect. A new 62nd Cities premieres every Thursday right here on Geography by Jeff. Next week city is Nairobi, Kenya.
