This renewed protest followed the president's recent declaration of willingness to engage with youth on X spaces to address issues such as debt, taxation, unemployment, and alleged corruption within the Kenya Kwanza regime.
The youth had steadfastly vowed to maintain pressure on the government until their demands were met.
Initially peaceful, the protests had been sparked by the controversial approval of the Finance Bill 2024 by some Kenya Kwanza MPs.
During the protests on Tuesday, July 2, a disturbing incident unfolded in the CBD, where some Generation Z protesters placed empty coffins, including one adorned with the Kenyan flag, in the area.
Police responded by removing these symbolic gestures from the streets. Some were destroyed before being taken away.
