27 dead in stampede at religious event in India's Uttar Pradesh
LUCKNOW, India, 2nd July, 2024 (WAM) -- Twenty-seven people, including 25 women and 2 men, were killed on Tuesday at a religious event in Hathras in north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Asian News International (ANI) reported.
Confirming the deaths due to stampede at the religious event, a senior heath official told the media, “Twenty-seven bodies have arrived at the post-mortem house so far. Many injured have also been admitted. Further details will be revealed after the investigation.”
Umesh Kumar Tripathi, Chied Medical Officer of Etah, further explained that a religious event was going on in Mughalgarhi village of Hathras district when the stampede occurred.
Rajesh Kumar Singh, Senior Superintend of Etah Police, told reporters that the identification of the 27 bodies is being carried out.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. He directed the district administration to expedite relief efforts at the site of the incident.
