Overnight Forecast: Monday, July 1, 2024
I'm Tom Terry, eye on the tropics time right now. And it's been a crazy year in the tropics so far. We've already gone through three names, Alberto, which hit over by Mexico and South Texas as a system that brought mainly just a whole lot of rain that we had barrel, which we're still tracking record-breaking storm and not over yet. And we briefly had Chris, which was a storm that was across the southwestern Gulf, similar to Alberto, but a little bit of a smaller storm. But I want to take you back in time to the crazy season of 2005 up to that point. This really was one of the most active seasons on record. On July the 16th, 2 weeks from now, essentially we had the earliest CAT5 on record and that was Emily, which had a very similar track to barrel, which I'll show you barrels track in a minute. It's almost exactly the same. It's weird, but right over here on the 16th, it was a CAT5 when it was in the Caribbean, the earliest CAT5 on record until possibly barrel and we're still getting Recon data and this could very easily become a Category 5 and would supplant Emily is the earliest CAT5 on record if it does so. But it's across and nearly the same track heading across toward the western Caribbean. Just crazy how Mother Nature can be consistent sometimes from decades between two different systems. Right now we have Invest 96, not very healthy here tonight. We have BARREL, which is certainly a very healthy storm. And we have the remnants of Chris, which is no longer an organized system. But BARREL is going to continue to be closely monitored here with tropical storm warnings across southern Haiti and the southwestern part of the Dr. and also hurricane warnings for Kingston. We're going to keep an eye on the Cayman Islands too. They could easily get tropical storm if not minimal hurricane conditions and again, I expect Barrel to stay well South of Florida. 7 day forecast. Scattered thunderstorms back in our forecast again all the way through the 4th, including the upcoming weekend.
