France star “disgusted” with Euro 2024 referees as Gareth Southgate frustration shared
Adrien Rabiot has hit out at referee Glenn Nyberg after he was booked in France's 1-0 win over Belgium.
The booking means Rabiot will now miss their upcoming quarter-final clash against Portugal, having also been shown a yellow card in France's 1-1 draw with Poland. And when asked about his suspension by RMC Sport, Rabiot said he was "disgusted" while taking aim at Nyberg.
"I'm disgusted to have taken this yellow," the midfielder fumed. "I find that the refereeing at the start of the match was a little limited. But I have confidence in the guys on the bench, I will be behind them."
UEFA rules mean players will serve a one-match suspension if they pick up two yellow cards at the tournament, but they will get a clean slate before the semi-finals meaning you will only be suspended for the final if you get sent off in the semi.
Rabiot is not the only player who will miss the quarter-finals through suspension, with England defender Marc Guehi a huge loss for their game against Switzerland. Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has also shared his frustration about losing the "exceptional" Guehi, who has been one of England's top performers at the tournament so far.
"He's been exceptional," Southgate said after his side's dramatic last-16 win over Slovakia. "We obviously lose him now for the next game, but he's a young defender that we've had enormous belief in and he's justified that with his performances in this tournament.
"He was another one who was out on his feet before the start of extra time and we managed to keep him going and he sacrificed for the team." According to the Telegraph, Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa is set to replace Guehi.

Southgate is said to have been 'hugely impressed' by the way Konsa has trained and carried himself at Euro 2024 and the 26-year-old has insisted he is well-prepared to step in for Guehi. "I'm always ready," Konsa said.
"When the gaffer wants to play me, wherever he wants to play, I will step in. I'm always ready. We've been excellent at the back. Marc Guehi has been outstanding for us. It's his first major tournament and it's been great to see from the bench.
"Obviously, like everyone, I want to play. But if and when my time comes I'll be ready but I've enjoyed the experience so far. It's my first major tournament and, hopefully, it won't be the first and last one."
