Should Chiefs and Pirates go for Gaston Sirino?

Former Mamelodi Sundowns winger Gaston Sirino could be an option for Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

The 33-year-old Uruguayan was recently released by Downs after six years with the club. Following his release, the winger took to social media to thank the club and fans.

“Yellow Nation, thank you for all these years that we were together, for the love you gave me from the first day I arrived. Not only to me but to my family as well and that will always remain in my heart,” he wrote on his social media page.

“THANK YOU to the Motsepe family for making me stay in the history of this beautiful club.

“THANK YOU, SIRINO,” he said.

The winger was unhappy at Chloorkop last year and hardly featured under Rulani Mokwena. Now that Sirino is a free agent, will the likes of Chiefs and Pirates go for him or will he move to North Africa?

The South American was linked with a move to Egyptian giants Al-Ahly last year. At 33, the winger might seek to move to another DStv Premiership team or even return to his home country Uruguay.

Both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were linked to Sirino at one point but the forward remained with Masandawana. Having scored 30 goals in over 150 appearances in the PSL, the star might not be a bad option for Amakhosi. The Glamour Boys have failed to fire up front and might need an experienced player to back Ashley Du Preez.

Unlike Chiefs, Pirates don’t need Sirino as they have Evidence Makgopa and last season’s PSL top scorer Tshegofatso Mabasa. The Uruguayan star was released by Sundowns alongside Thabiso Kutumela, Brian Onyango and Bongani Zungu.
