"I don't think they have ever been right since" - Brandon Jennings says Golden State's dynasty ended before Klay Thompson's exit

klay-dray

Klay Thompson's exit from the Golden State Warriors means their dynasty is over. However, according to Brandon Jennings, the end of the Dubs actually unfolded two years earlier.

In his appearance on Gil's Arena, the former NBA star reminded everyone that despite the organization's efforts to salvage what was left, Golden State was broken beyond repair after Draymond Green and Jordan Poole engaged in an infamous fiasco.

"The Warriors have been cooked since the punch. Let's be honest. They've been through the dynasty then it has been over since that punch. … So it just took a whole lot out of the team, and I don't think they have ever been right since then, either," Jennings said.

A furious ride since the Green-Poole incident

Fresh from winning the 2022 NBA championship, the Warriors were trending upward after a few years of struggle. However, their hopes of extending their dominance ended when Draymond took a swing at Jordan.

Even though they tried to forget the incident, the Warriors' chemistry was irreversibly damaged. As a result, they were eliminated in the second round of the 2023 playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers before trading Poole to the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul in the summer.

The Dubs hoped the trade would provide a fresh start. With their former rival on the roster, they hoped for another championship in the 2023-24 campaign. Unfortunately, these hopes didn't turn into reality, as injuries and inconsistencies got in the way. Although they secured 46 wins in the regular season, the Warriors lost in the Play-In against the Sacramento Kings.

Dynasty ends no matter what

Good things always come to an end. The same goes for sports dynasties, who are always bound to reach the finish line. We've seen it from the Bill Russell Celtics, Showtime Los Angeles Lakers, and the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan. The Warriors couldn't escape the same fate.

Regardless of what caused the collapse, the entire Golden State organization can only keep its heads held high and cherish its historic run. But if they draft well and make some moves in the near future, especially while Stephen Curry is still near his prime, another run at a championship is still on the table.
