MLS side St Louis sack former Kaizer Chiefs star

MLS team St. Louis City have sacked coach and former Kaizer Chiefs star Bradley Carnell.

St. Louis City sack Bradley Carnell

Bradley Carnell, a veteran of German Bundesliga football as a player, has been relieved of his duties as head coach of MLS outfit St. Louis City. Sporting director Luts Pfannenstiel will take over. St. Louis are langushing in 12th place in the Western Conference with only three wins from 20 league outings.

“St. Louis CITY SC today announced the departure of the club’s head coach, Bradley Carnell. Technical Director John Hackworth will manage the team on an interim basis as CITY SC begins the search for a new head coach.” they said in a statement.

“Given Bradley’s many contributions to the club, this was not an easy decision. Unfortunately, based on our Year 2 results to date, we believe a coaching change is in the best interest of the club as we regroup and look to improve both our performance and our results.” the statement continued.

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Blom faces uncertain future

Former Chiefs midfield general Njabulo Blom arrived in the MLS at the end of 2022. He struggled to hold down a place initially but gradually got into his stride, becoming a mainstay in the centre of the park. Now, howveer, there is some doubt over his status at the club. Carnell pushed to sign the Amakhosi youth product and with the coach gone, Blom might be considering his options. The 24-year-old’s contract expires in December of this year, but the club has a two-year extension option. The player has only made 11 appearances out of 20 in the Western Conference this term.

KAIZER CHIEFS FANS HAVE HAD TO BE PATIENT

Nasreddine Nabi’s FAR Rabat side lost the Throne Cup Final on 1 July against Raja Casablanca. Raja, coached by former Pirates boss Josef Zinnbauer, pipped Nabi’s side to the Botola Pro 1 League crown by a single point. This means that Nabi’s much-anticipated move to Kaizer Chiefs will be finalized soon. He could plausibly fly to South Africa this week to be officially unveiled. Interim boss Cavin Johnson was officially sacked on Monday 1 July.
