Kaizer Chiefs to re-sign fan favourite amid MLS uncertainty?

Kaizer Chiefs could do worse than reuniting with Njabulo Blom after St. Louis City sacked manager Bradley Carnell.

Blom is no longer an MLS regular, Kaizer Chiefs return on the cards?

Njabulo Blom was a regular part of the furniture in his first season stateside. However, with only 11 league appearances from 20 this time around, his first-team status isn’t quite as secure. Now, with the dismissal of his compatriot Bradley Carnell, even more doubts over his future with St. Louis will emerge.

The 24-year-old’s contract expires in December of this year, but the club has a two-year extension option. He switched to the MLS in the final days of 2022 for a reported €300k (R6 million). His updated value, according to transfermarkt, is €1m, around R20 million.

St. Louis City have sacked Carnell

Bradley Carnell, a veteran of German Bundesliga football as a player, has been relieved of his duties as head coach of MLS outfit St. Louis City. Sporting director Luts Pfannenstiel will take over. St. Louis is languishing in 12th place in the Western Conference with only three wins from 20 league outings.

“St. Louis CITY SC today announced the departure of the club’s head coach, Bradley Carnell. Technical Director John Hackworth will manage the team on an interim basis as CITY SC begins the search for a new head coach.” they said in a statement.

“Given Bradley’s many contributions to the club, this was not an easy decision. Unfortunately, based on our Year 2 results to date, we believe a coaching change is in the best interest of the club as we regroup and look to improve both our performance and our results.” the statement continued.

Chiefs identify cheap potential goalkeeping solution

According to UnplayableZA on X, Chiefs have inquired about possibly signing Tuks ‘keeper Edward Maova. The 29-year-old Namibian made three appearances in last season’s Nedbank Cup and stands 1.92m tall. He’s only been with AmaTuks for 11 months after joining them from Pretoria Callies in 2023. Is he pedigreed enough to replace Itumeleng Khune? One thing is for sure, Maova won’t cost nearly as much as long-standing target Stanley Nwabali, who was valued at R30 million by Chippa. Maova will cost next to nothing. The club is also reportedly keen to sign a new left-back and striker.

Hypothetically speaking, would you want the club to look into re-signing Blom? Let us know in the comments.
