Priyanka Gandhi on Rahul's remark in Lok Sabha: 'He attacked BJP, not Hindus'
The BJP on Monday alleged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made derogatory remarks against Hindus in Lok Sabha during his first speech as Leader of Opposition in the House and demanded an apology.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi backed Rahul Gandhi. "My brother (Rahul) can never speak against Hindus. He has spoken about BJP and about BJP leaders," she clarified.
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi displayed the portraits of Lord Shiva, Guru Nanak and Jesus Christ and the act was opposed by Speaker OM Birla. He later said, "All our great men have spoken about non-violence and finishing fear. But those who call themselves Hindu only talk about violence, hatred, untruth.Aap Hindu ho hi nahi(You're not Hindu by any means)."
This led to a swift intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he said, "Calling the entire Hindu community violent is a very serious charge."
"PM Modi, BJP-RSS are not the entire Hindu community," Gandhi retorted.
Following this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanded an apology from the Congress leader.
