Nick Kyrgios tells Piers Morgan that he would have easily beaten John McEnroe - and sends heartfelt plea to Andy Murray to retire soon

Aussie firebrand Nick Kyrgios believes he would have easily beaten tennis legend John McEnroe - and hopes his good friend Andy Murray will put his health first and retire soon.

The bad boy of world tennis appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored this week where he shared his views on a wide range of subjects ahead of Wimbledon.

When asked about whether he would beat US tennis great McEnroe if they had ever met on the court, Kyrgios didn't need long to think about it.

'He's lucky that he didn't play in this day and age, because I don't know how that would have gone for the big fella,' he said.

'He would have probably lashed out a little bit too much on people on social media!'

When pressed on the outcome of the match, he continued: 'That's an easy walk for me.'

Morgan replied: 'Really, you'd have beaten him?'

Kyrgios fired back: 'I think so…..I'm serving pretty big.

'I mean, it's a different era… I mean, [Roger] Federer, [Rafael] Nadal and Novak [Djokovic] have struggled. So, I don't know how McEnroe is going to go against returning my serve.

'I'm confident in my ability, and I have utmost respect. It'd be a tough match… I think I'm returning serve.'

Kyrgios also urged his friend Andy Murray to put his health first and retire from tennis soon.

The 37-year-old is currently unsure whether he is in good enough physical shape to play his first-round Wimbledon match against Czech Tomas Machac following recent surgery.

'It pains me to see him...and these aren't small injuries,' Kyrgios said.

'They are injuries that can actually effect your life, moving forward with your family.

'So, in my opinion, this should be his final Wimbledon. He has achieved everything that you could possibly achieve.'

Morgan explained that Murray might be fearful of retirement.

'I'm here talking to Piers Morgan, I grew up in Canberra, I've got so many amazing things happening in my life, not only tennis,' Kyrgios said.

'He has got a beautiful family, he has got so many other amazing things in his life that he could be enjoying.

'I could play dominos with you here and I'd get a rush of competition. There is competition everywhere.

'It's how you look at it.....tennis for me, I don't identify as a tennis player. It is just one way of my communication. I have a podcast, I've got tennis and I've got so many other things. They are just ways I communicate to the world.

'If you look at it like that, maybe Andy needs to try and find how he can still communicate. I guess for him he might be afraid to let go because he thinks that is all he is but you've got a great family, you're a good human.

'He could do anything he wants but that letting go of tennis for him might be hard, but I think he will be fine.'
