'That's the Problem': Sherlock Co-Creator Says What's Holding Up a Revival
Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman is among the most popular adaptations of the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories about the iconic detective. While the series ended in 2017, its creators are still holding out hope for continuing the story one day.
The series was created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat. In an interview with Metro.co.uk, Moffat addressed the possibility of bringing back the show. He said he'd personally be up for revisiting Sherlock any day, but it's not up to him. The biggest "problem" with holding up a revival series or reunion film is that the show's stars are so busy these days with their own respective filming schedules, and that makes getting everybody on the same page to film Sherlock more difficult.

The cast for CBS' upcoming Sherlock Holmes series, Watson, continues to grow, adding stars from Star Trek: Discovery and So Help Me Todd.
"As I've said before, I'll do it tomorrow. I mean, Arthur Conan Doyle wrote 60 novels," as Moffat explained, similar to what Gatiss also said about a revival. "It's not a format that will wear out. Sherlock Holmes will never wear out. I'd love to do it again. I would absolutely love to again. I'm easy, but you need to get the two big stars. That's the problem."
Other Sherlock Holmes Content Is Coming
It remains to be seen if the version of Sherlock with Cumberbatch and Freeman will ever be revisited. Meanwhile, it was recently teased that another feature film with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law could happen in the near future. Guy Ritchie is also developing a Young Sherlock Holmes series for Prime Video.
