Tunis, July 1 (TAP) - The eighth session of the Tunisia-Burkina Faso Joint Commission opened on Monday at the Burkinabe foreign ministry in Ouagadougou, under the co-chairmanship of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians abroad, Nabil Ammar and his Burkinabe counterpart Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré.

In a speech on the occasion, the Minister recalled the strength of the historical and fraternal relations between the two countries.

He stressed the importance of this bilateral meeting, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Burkina Faso, "one of the main economic partners in the West African region", according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the state of bilateral cooperation, its prospects and the means of strengthening it in various fields. It marks the year of consultations between officials of the two countries on various regional and international issues of common interest, the ministry said.

The convening of the Joint Commission and the participation of a large Tunisian delegation comprising representatives of 15 Tunisian ministries, as well as a large delegation of businessmen led by the President of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA), Samir Majoul, reflects the will of the political leadership of both countries to raise bilateral cooperation relations to the highest level.

On the subject of irregular migration, the Minister stressed the importance of strengthening consultation, coordination and cooperation between the countries concerned by this phenomenon in order to combat organised crime and trafficking networks and to limit the tragic consequences for illegal migrants and their impact on regional security and stability.

He stressed Tunisia's firm position of respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs, and its support for African countries to achieve their independence in accordance with the will and aspirations of their peoples.

The Foreign Minister recalled Tunisia's principled position in support of just causes, particularly the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on all the land of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
