Chicago Blackhawks add defenceman T.J. Brodie on a two-year contract

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed T.J. Brodie to a two-year, $7.5-million contract, the team announced on Monday. The deal runs through the 2025-26 season and will carry an average salary cap hit of $3.75-million.
“T.J. is a strong, two-way defenceman that can play valuable minutes in any situation,” Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson said in a release. “He adds a wealth of experience to our room and we’re excited about the impact he’ll have on our team.”
The 34-year-old had spent the past four seasons guarding the blueline for the Toronto Maple Leafs, totalling 82 points and racking up a plus-70 rating across 274 games. During the 2023-24 campaign, Brodie ranked first in blocked shots amongst all Maple Leaf players, registering 159 through 78 appearances, while also ranking second on the team for ice time, averaging 21:43 per contest.
The six-foot-two, Chatham, Ont. native was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames with a fourth round pick in the 2008 NHL draft, where he remained until joining the Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2020.
Throughout his career, he has gone on to appear in 908 NHL games — ranking 13th amongst his draft class — over the course of 14 seasons.
