Turbulence forces Air Europa flight to make emergency landing in Brazil

It needed to be diverted to Brazil. The captain put over an announcement telling people to put their seatbelts on immediately because of that turbulence, but many people didn't get to it in time. And you can see there the result of. 3.5 seconds of mayhem. There is significant damage to the aircraft, which is a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Parts of the ceiling have fallen down, there is blood on the back of the seats, and yes, a man needed to be pulled from the overhead compartment, although it's not clear how he ended up in there in the 1st place. People were stretchered off with various injuries, including cuts and back injuries. A fleet of ambulances were waiting for this flight as it landed in Brazil. 30 injured. 7 remain in hospital. As I mentioned, the airline says that all those who have been injured are being taken care of in medical facilities. The rest of the passengers, all arrangements are being made for their onward journey to Uruguay. But of course, this is just the latest in a number of severe turbulence flights, the most significant of which happened on a Singapore Airlines flight where dozens of people were injured, including Australians and a British man died.
