Oilers Miss Out on Jake DeBrusk
EDMONTON -- Free Agency Frenzy is in full swing.
The Edmonton Oilers have already made several moves. Connor Brown has re-signed for one year. Viktor Arvidsson is joining the team, reuniting with his former teammate Mattias Ekholm.
They have also re-signed AHL players James Hamblin, Noah Philp and Noel Hoefenmayer. The Oilers brought in Josh Brown to secure the 7th defenseman position.

Some of the more interesting things to happen are the players that the Oilers have missed out on. The Oilers were reportedly in the mix to land winger Jake DeBrusk. However, a Pacific Division rival has signed the (now) former Boston Bruins forward.
The Vancouver Canucks have signed DeBrusk to a seven-year $5.5-million cap hit contract. This deal clearly shows that the young forward was looking for job security. Seven years is a long time to commit to a new player, and it's possible that the Oilers were not willing to offer him the same term.
During the 2023-24 regular season DeBrusk had 40 points in 80 games. Over the playoffs he stepped up, collecting 11 points in 13 games.
The Oilers still have some cap space to sign more players. There is also no rush to sign everyone they want to today.
