Dale’s runs seal success for Wexford Wanderers
The Wexford Wanderers had a mixed weekend of cricket, with three games scheduled, but only two going ahead due to inclement weather.
The second team’s home game against Finglas was unfortunately called off, leaving the spotlight on the first and third teams, both of whom faced North County on Sunday.
The first team travelled to face North County’s second team. Winning the toss, they chose to bat first.
The innings saw a stand-out performance from Seán Dunk, who remained unbeaten on 51, anchoring the team’s total of 152 all out in 39.5 overs.
Despite Dunk’s efforts, North County chased down the target in just over 37 overs, leaving the Wexford first team reflecting on missed opportunities.
At home, the third team faced North County’s third team in a match that showcased tight bowling and tense batting.
North County won the toss and opted to bat first, but they were stifled by some excellent bowling from Wexford.
Ajo Paul was the star with the ball, delivering an impressive spell of 5.3 overs, including three maidens, and taking four wickets for just four runs. North County was bowled out for a modest 77.
The chase was anything but straightforward. Wexford found themselves in a precarious position, but Dale Goss’s crucial 23 runs helped steer the team to a nail-biting victory, with the last two batters at the crease when the winning runs were scored.
Despite the disappointment of the second team’s game being called off, the Wexford Wanderers had a weekend of cricket filled with both challenges and triumphs.
The first team put up a brave fight but fell short, while the third team clinched a thrilling win, demonstrating the resilience and fighting spirit that the club is known for.
