Pat Tillman’s mom criticizes decision to honor Prince Harry
This morning the backlash is growing against a decision to give Prince Harry the Pat Tillman Award for helping to create the Invictus Games ten years ago. ESPN highlighting how the sports competition for injured service members and vets transcended borders and impacted lives. But Tillman's mother, Mary Tillman, who says she wasn't consulted about the decision, telling the MailOnline. I am shocked as to why they would select such a controversial and divisive individual, saying others are far more fitting who don't have money, resources, connections or privilege. Pat Tillman gave up a promising football career with the Arizona Cardinals to join the Army Rangers after 911. He was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004, his family setting up a foundation in his name and ESPN launching the Pat Tillman Award for Service in 2014 for unsung heroes. It is such an honor for us to receive an award named for a hero like Pat. Last year's winner, the Buffalo Bills training team for saving DeMar Hamlin's life. This morning, a petition to rethink the honor signed by 10s of thousands. But on social media, some are defending Prince Harry, who served two tours in Afghanistan. I'm so happy for Harry. I think that Prince Harry has certainly divided opinion both in the UK and in the United States because of the various controversies he's been involved in in recent years.
