Minnesota Vikings offensive players on the roster bubble ahead of training camp

The Minnesota Vikings will report to training camp on July 21st, a day that is less than three weeks away. When they report, it will all be about who can make the roster.

Currently, the Vikings have 91 players on their 90-man roster with tight end Sammis Reyes being on the roster via the International Pathway Program.

The Vikings have 43 roster spots locked up give or take one or two. That leaves 48 players fighting to make the initial 53-man roster. Some of these might seem like locks, but some things that fall a certain way could change things for the Vikings 2024 roster. This especially holds true with the deeper positions.

These are the Vikings' offensive players on the roster bubble.

Quarterback: Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall

This group is simple. Will Hall and J.J. McCarthy perform well enough for the Vikings to view Mullens as expendable in a trade? That will give us the answer we need with the third quarterback.

Running back: Kene Nwangwu, DeWayne McBride and Myles Gaskin

The only thing certain with the Vikings running back group is the top three of Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler and C.J. Ham at fullback. With the changes in the kickoff rule, it could spell the end of Nwangwu, who struggles massively with vision in zone concepts. McBride and Gaskin will likely factor in with special teams and third-down utility with the massive edge to Gaskin.

Wide receiver: Jalen Nailor, Trishton Jackson, Lucky Jackson, Malik Knowles, Thayer Thomas, Ty James and Jeshaun Jones

The top four wide receivers feel set in stone in terms of making the roster. The one odd inclusion on here is Nailor. The Vikings love him and will give him every chance to not just make the roster, but also be WR3. However, he continues to struggle staying on the field. That puts the former sixth-round pick in this group.

Tight end: Nick Muse, Robert Tonyan, N'Keal Harry, Trey Knox and Sammis Reyes (International Pathway Player)

With Hockenson likely starting the season on injured reserve, this will be a very competitive position group. Muse is going into his third season but hasn't registered a catch yet in his NFL career. Tonyan could end up being the starter if his training camp performance matches his offseason.

Offensive tackle: Walter Rouse, Doug Nester, Spencer Rolland

Rouse is only on here because he's a sixth round pick but is still likely to make the roster after not allowing a sack during his final collegiate season.

Interior offensive line: Dalton Risner, Tyrese Robinson, Jeremy Flax, Henry Byrd

Risner on here? Are you sure? Yes I am. He is only on the hook for $1.1 million on the salary cap for the 2024 season if he's cut and if he struggles during training camp, they could look to move on from him quickly. Why would they do that? It's the same answer for why they waited until May to sign him.
