NHL Schedules Sheldon Keefe's New Jersey Devils to Host His Former Toronto Maple Leafs in Their North American Season Opener
The NHL schedule makers either have a sense of humor or know how to sell their game.
Either way, the league announced each team's respective home openers and the game stood out in particular.
The New Jersey Devils will play their North American home opener on Oct. 10 as Sheldon Keefe will host his former club, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It won't be Keefe's first game as head coach of the Devils. The team will play against the Buffalo Sabres for a pair of games in the Czech Republic as part of the league's annual Global Series on Oct. 4 and 5.
That was scheduled long before Keefe was dismissed as head coach of the Leafs in May and replaced with Craig Berube.
That's one heck of a way to debut in front of your new team.
The Leafs will open the season one day prior on Oct. 9 at Bell Centre against the Montreal Canadiens. The Leafs will play their home opener on Oct. 12.
Scotiabank Arena is undergoing renovations so that might have played a part in Toronto opening the season with back-to-back road games.
There's no doubt Oct. 10 will be a must-watch. The rest of the schedule is expected to be released on Tuesday.
