Nostalgic seaside town with lighthouse and fort rated as the best in the north-west
Located on the northeastern tip of the Wirral Peninsula on the bay of Liverpool, New Brighton is a seaside retreat with a difference. Much more compact than the likes of Blackpool, Scarborough and Whitby, the urban beach resort is a lesser-known Victorian treasure that is packed full of things to do.
According to the research undertaken by the team at OLBG , the sandy seaside resort is perfect for an entertainment-filled day out, offering visitors to the Wirral a taste of the beach life with views out across the River Mersey to Liverpool.
The town has undergone a renaissance in recent years, transforming it into a vibrant hub that offers a state-of-the-art all-digital cinema, revamped theatre and a variety of cafés, bars, and restaurants. All of this combined with its quintessentially Victorian seaside charm, has made New Brighton the top destination for seaside activities in the North of England, according to the research.
The urban gem
The beaches at New Brighton are a hidden gem with almost unbeatable sunsets. An attractive 3/4-mile stretch of golden sand, it's a popular destination for visitors during the summer months and dogs are always welcome.
There are also plenty of things to see and do whatever the weather throws at you.
For starters, there is Champion Golf, one of the world's most amazing minigolf courses where each of the 18 holes is inspired by the World’s Greatest Golf Holes. There is also the Marine Point development with its restaurants, shops and entertainment centre.
Visitors to the town can indulge themselves in the rich history that is evident on every corner. Fort Perch Rock was built as a coastal defence battery to protect the Port of Liverpool during the Napoleonic period and the magnificent building has played a pivotal role in Merseyside’s history, which you can take a tour of.
One of Wirral’s most famous landmarks, New Brighton Lighthouse also stands proudly on display at 95ft tall. With New Brighton Beach surrounding it, sunrise and sunset make the perfect times to catch stunning photographs.
Victorian Quarter
One of New Brighton’s wonderful beaches is home to the internationally known community-built iconic driftwood boat, The Black Pearl, tended to with love and care by a band of merry 'pirates'. No visit to New Brighton is complete without taking a walk around Victoria Road in the Victorian Quarter to discover cafes, bars, a vinyl record store, charity shops, quirky independents and more.
Visitors to the area have taken to TripAdivsor to rate the area and its beautiful sandy beaches. One said "The beach was very clean and well maintained even with the large quantity of visitors on the day. The water was pristine and the sky clear, the perfect opportunity to lie back and let the kids loose with their sand castles and shoreline swimming."
Another added: "A lovely place to sit beside in the summer while enjoying an ice cream."
