England goalkeeper Mary Earps has signed a two-year contract with Paris St-Germain after completing her move to the French side on a free transfer.
The Lionesses’ No 1 goalkeeper since 2021, Earps left Manchester United following the conclusion of her contract at the end of June, after turning down an offer of a new deal from the WSL club. She says she is “honoured” to have signed for last season’s Champions League semi-finalists.
Earps, who has kept 25 clean sheets across her 50 senior international caps for England and has won the Fifa Best women’s goalkeeper award two years running, said: “Joining Paris Saint-Germain is a fantastic opportunity. I’m very honoured to become a Parisian and I can’t wait to play alongside my new teammates.
“Together, we’re going to give our all to help the club shine and make our fans proud. I’m determined to contribute to our future success so that Paris Saint-Germain continues to rank among Europe’s top clubs.”
It is understood that Earps’ offer from Manchester United was more lucrative than PSG’s in terms of wages but that the goalkeeper had her heart set on trying to win more silverware and playing in European competitions. Manchester United missed out on Champions League qualification by finishing fifth in the WSL last term.
The move sees Nottingham-born Earps play abroad for the second time in her career, following a spell with German side Wolfsburg in 2018-19, immediately before her five years with Manchester United. She has also played for clubs including Birmingham City, Doncaster Rovers Belles and Reading.
Manchester United, with whom Earps won the FA Cup final at Wembley in May, did not “align” with Earps’ career plans, the 31-year-old had said in a statement when her exit was confirmed on Saturday, adding: “The club is about to undergo a period of transition, and unfortunately I don’t feel it aligns with the timing of where I’m at in my career, therefore I think now is the right time to make a change and embark on a new challenge. There aren’t the right words, or enough words, to express my heartfelt gratitude to you all.”
Earps is part of the 25-player England squad that travelled to the Netherlands on Monday for an overseas training camp, ahead of the Euro 2025 qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden this month.
Earps missed England’s most recent fixture, an away win in France, with a minor hip injury but is continuing her return to full fitness with rehab within the Lionesses camp. Sarina Wiegman’s side will face her native Netherlands in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Thursday.
However, the injured trio Chelsea star Lauren James, Arsenal centre-back Lotte Wubben-Moy and Southampton goalkeeper Kayla Rendell all remain out after missing June’s game in France with Orlando Pride goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse being handed her first first senior call-up.
Moorhouse will join the squad at St George’s Park from Monday 8 July, the same date at which Bayern Munich midfielder Georgia Stanway will rejoin the Lionesses, both because of club commitments.
