New York Yankees' Aaron Judge vying for one of MLB's most elusive feats

There may be an entire second half of the season left to play, but New York Yankees star Aaron Judge is firmly in the conversation to accomplish one of MLB's greatest feats.

Entering Monday's slate of games, Judge has a .316 batting average with 31 home runs and 82 RBI.

Judge's home run and RBI marks lead MLB. His batting average is just one point below the American League leader Luis Rengifo, who also is a potential trade deadline addition for New York.

That's right, Judge is vying for the elusive Triple Crown.

The last time a player achieved the rare feat was in 2012 when Miguel Cabrera hit .330 with 44 home runs and 139 RBI.

Before that, the latest player to do so was Carl Yastrzemski in 1967.

It's easy to see Judge finishing the season as MLB's leader in home runs and RBI. The average portion will be a little difficult simply because there are more players around him like Rengifo, Bobby Witt Jr. (.312) and Carlos Correa (.311).

Since May 1, Judge has been on an incredible tear. He leads MLB in batting average (.384), home runs (25), RBI (64), fWAR (5.3), OPS (1.388) and wRC+ (275).

Sustaining that pace is difficult and probably unlikely, but Judge is a superstar in the middle of a truly historic season. So it's unwise to bet against him.

We'll see if he can cap it off by becoming just the second player since 1968 to win the Triple Crown.
