Lions O-line rated best in NFL
The Detroit Lions’ high-powered offense all starts up front, and nobody’s group is better in the trenches than the Lions, according to new rankings.
Pro Football Focus on Monday named the Lions’ offensive line as the best in the NFL.
Even though Detroit lost its starting right guard, Jonah Jackson, to the Rams in free agency, the team replaced him with Pro Bowler Kevin Zeitler while returning the other four starters from last season.
“When healthy, the Lions' offensive line was arguably the best unit in the NFL last season,” PFF wrote, and the organization doesn’t expect that to change.
In fact, PFF actually graded Zeitler better than Jackson last season, ranking Detroit’s new guard as the 15th-best at the position in the league last season while Jackson was 34th.
He’s between PFF’s top-ranked right tackle in 2023-24, Penei Sewell, and PFF’s highest-graded center, Frank Ragnow.
The left side of the Lions O-line features Graham Glasgow, the eighth-ranked guard in the NFL last season, per PFF, and Taylor Decker, PFF’s ninth-ranked tackle.
Sewell and Ragnow were credited with allowing just one sack last each last season while Zeitler and Glasgow each surrendered two, per PFF. Decker gave up eight but still ranks highly, and the five collectively were called for 26 penalties in 5,252 snaps played last season.
If healthy, the unit should again be one of — if not the — best in the league and a key to keeping Detroit’s offense as one of the most dangerous in the NFL.
