Here's Why Yabu's Kurobuta Katsu Is Better Than Ever
(SPOT.ph) Any carnivore's eyes would sparkle at the mention of Wagyu or Kobe beef, but don't forget about its pork counterpart. Kurobuta, or Black Berkshire Pig, is often described to be the "Kobe beef of pork" and "Wagyu of pork" because of its gorgeous, luxurious marbling resulting in a tender, juicy, and flavorful cut of meat. Yabu is known to serve a special katsu using the pork—and with their new, updated version, it's better than ever.

Just when we thought you'd forever be loyal to your go-to Yabu tonkatsu set came the Tornado Omelet Curry that won us over with its swirled scrambled egg on top of rice and a pool of Japanese curry. Now, it looks as though we're about to question our favorite Yabu dish again with the Rosu Kurobuta Premium Set.

You may remember Yabu had a Kurobuta on the menu years ago, but there's a difference in how they prepare the pork this time around, and what it's served with. Yabu's new Rosu Kurobuta Premium Set uses the famous Kurobuta meat that they cured in shio koji, a cooked and fermented grain often used to marinate meat, for 12 hours to lend a tender, savory-sweet taste with each bite. The Kurobuta is paired with not the usual tonkatsu sauce, but with a special spicy wasabi and plum sauce.
Yabu's Rosu Kurobuta Premium Set, as the name suggests, is premium, thus the prices are more expensive as compared to the restaurant's other meats. The set is available in a 120-gram Kurobuta for P795 while the 80-gram proportion costs P650.
