An Amazon customer has revealed how she was trapped inside her house for three hours after a delivery driver left her package in a very unsuitable spot.

Holly Ciampaglio, from Philadelphia, took to TikTok to share the light-hearted tale with her 60,800 followers.

She explained that she had been unable to open the front door due to the parcel's poor positioning - adding that she had desperately been 'trying to wave down a neighbor.'

And viewers were left in stitches over the unfortunate mishap.

In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 592,000 times, Holly spoke directly to camera as she explained the situation.

Fighting back nervous laughter, she began: 'I got a package from Amazon. It's supposed to be a cardboard cutout of a Star Wars character - that's not important.'

She then flipped the camera to show the large parcel on the door step which had been wedged between the outward-opening front door and the metal bannister beyond - leaving her no way of getting out of the house.

'Why? We can't open our door. Oh god, we're stuck. Oh no,' the content creator said.

She captioned the clip: 'Amazon we're still stuck. It's been three hours… trying to wave down a neighbor.'

And Holly's video was soon flooded with comments from other social media users as one wrote: 'Legend has it they are still stuck...'

Another commented: 'The thought of not being able to open the door makes me ill!'

And a third added: 'This happened to me a couple years ago! Call the local police station, not 911, and explain what happened. They'll send someone out to help! They will laugh at you, but they WILL help.'

Following the widespread furor, Holly uploaded a follow-up clip in which she provided further context.

'It's been a couple days. We're not stuck still,' she began, before showing viewers that she was now able to open the door in question.

Holly then launched into answering questions posed by other social media users.

'As far as the back door goes, first of all, we live in a house, not an apartment.

'We do have a back door and a back patio. We just live in a very narrow house because we live in a city.'

She showed viewers her yard before pointing out that it is surrounded by neighbors on all sides - which is why she was unable to escape that way with ease.

Holly then pointed to a fence on her right, adding: 'That leads to a parking lot directly next to our house.

'Now you see, if we were to climb this fence and hop down, we'd probably injure ourselves so we weren't about to do that...

'We weren't about to injure ourselves just to get a package on the street because we knew of our friend dropping off somebody at the train station in our city.

'We asked them to come look at our Wi-Fi anyway, so we knew that they were coming.'

She continued: 'We just waited probably three or four hours before he came and relieved us.

'As far as everyone telling us to "take the glass off our door" - it is a Sunday, too much work, especially if we knew that a friend was coming.

'Everyone's like, "break a window." Would you break a window in your own house to get to a package? No.

'Also, we live in a major city, so I don't know how long the local police [would take]. The local police probably would have taken just as long as our friend did to release us.'

Holly concluded: 'So, everyone that was genuinely worried about us - thank you. I love you. You're great people.

'Everybody who was making fun of us for, I don't know, being a little lazy - whatever.

'But I'm just glad that this is a universal experience because that was crazy.'
