Dallas Cowboys receiver set to miss training camp as contract wrangle continues

NFL teams are gearing up for the start of training camp later this month as the 2024 season begins to come into focus.

The return of players to team facilities at the end of July is a major milestone on the road to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans as six months of hard graft gets underway for players and coaches.

The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to end a 29-year Super Bowl drought this year but will need all of last season’s key contributors to hit the ground running if they are to improve on last season’s Wild Card round playoff exit.

This will include wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who enjoyed a career-best season last year, hauling in 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

These numbers have seen the 2020 first-round draft pick demand a new contract as he enters the final year of his rookie deal, but talks between player and team have so far come up short.

That has seen Lamb miss the team’s mandatory minicamp earlier this year, leading to the player being hit by more than $100,000 in fines, but the Dallas Morning News now report that Lamb is not expected to report to training camp which starts on July 25, which would be a blow to the Cowboys pre-season preparations.

Lamb has seen a number of other wide receivers land big deals so far this offseason, with Vikings star Justin Jefferson putting pen to paper on a four-year $140million deal, while A.J Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jaylen Waddles have also bagged big paydays.

Former Oklahoma standout Lamb is not the only wide reciever looking for a new deal this summer, with San Francisco 49ers Brandon Aiyuk, Cincinnati Bengals’ JaMarr Chase and Tee Higgins all hoping to come to new agreements before the start of the new season.
