Brentford hire Keith Andrews as set-piece coach to replace Chelsea's Bernardo Cueva

Brentford have appointed Keith Andrews as a set-piece coach, following the departure of set-piece specialist Bernardo Cueva to Chelsea.

Cueva left Brentford in May to join Chelsea as the Blues embark on setting up a new set-piece department.

But Andrews has now started work with Brentford after the club agreed a deal to sign him from Sheffield United. The 43-year-old had been a member of the Blades’ coaching staff since December.

The former MK Dons assistant manager represented the likes of Hull City and Wolves in a playing career that spanned from 1999 to 2015.

A 35-time ex-Ireland international, Andrews competed at Euro 2012.

Phil Giles, the Bees’ director of football, said: “Everyone at Brentford is extremely happy to see Keith join us at pre-season training for his first day today.

“He is someone we have known for a while and always had in mind for a role at some point in the future.

“Whilst he has had more wide-ranging coaching roles in the past, focusing on set-pieces as a specialism is something which we think he has the qualities to do extremely well, and I’m sure that our staff can help him develop as a coach, too.

“Set-pieces are an important part of what we do well and I’m sure we’ll maintain those standards with Keith in charge.”

Brentford finished 16th in the Premier League last season and are gearing up for their fourth successive top-flight campaign.
