Clubs scramble to sign Alan Browne after he ends 10-year spell with Preston
Ireland international Alan Browne is headed for pastures new after his exit from Championship side Preston was confirmed.
Browne, who joined Preston from Cork City in 2014, was out of contract with the club and while they had offered him a new contract which the club claimed was the most lucrative in their history, he has informed them that he’s moving on.
“We can confirm Alan Browne has informed the club he will not be accepting the offer of a three-year extension to his existing contract. A member of our 400 club, Browney leaves North End with everyone's best wishes,” the club said today.
“Consistently playing around 40 games a season, it wasn’t long before he cemented his name even further into the history books, as in January 2024 he joined only 12 other players in making 400 appearances.
“That total’s since been taken to 412 and his performances throughout the 2023/24 campaign earned him the Sir Tom Finney Player of the Year award for the second time.
“It’s been a decade of highs and lows, and Alan has been there for all of them, and he now leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Preston North End.”
Browne was linked with a move to Italian side Salernitana in the January window but that move fell through when the clubs could not agree on a fee but they could revive their interest while Championship rivals are also likely to make contact.
