CEO of highway concessionaire arrested over RM1.67 bil contracts released on bail

PUTRAJAYA (July 1): The chief executive officer of a highway concessionaire who was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with the alleged bribery involving highway contracts worth RM1.67 billion has been released on bail.

The CEO, who has a "Datuk" title, was released on Monday, a day before his extended eight-day remand order expires on Tuesday. Arrested last Monday, he was originally remanded till Friday, until an order was obtained from the court to extend his remand.

He was released at the Magistrate's Court here at about 3pm after posting RM20,000 of a RM150,000 bail, according to his lawyer Farhan Read when contacted by The Edge. The balance RM130,000 is unsecured bond and only needs to be paid if he does not check in with the MACC at its headquarters once a month.

The CEO, along with seven others, were arrested last week in connection with the alleged bribery.

Four of the seven will also be released on Tuesday, Farhan said.

Following the arrests, Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) issued a statement to say it was "aware that our personnel have been remanded by MACC to assist in an ongoing investigation relating to a construction case".

"We are committed and are working closely with all relevant authorities to ensure full cooperation in facilitating the investigation,” said the highway concessionaire, adding, “Prolintas continues to be committed to maintaining the highest levels of integrity and corporate governance”.

Prolintas operates several highways in the Klang Valley including the Guthrie Corridor Expressway, Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway (LKSA) and Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (Akleh).

The company also runs the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK), Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) and Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE).
