Anthony Gordon makes feelings clear as Newcastle agree club record sale
Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon was quick to pay tribute to Elliot Anderson after the youngster completed his move to Nottingham Forest.
Anderson was one of two sales rushed through by Newcastle on Sunday as they raced to beat the deadline imposed by profit and sustainability rules (PSR), with winger Yankuba Minteh, who impressed on loan at Feyenoord last season, completing a switch to Brighton.
Anderson's move sees the 21-year-old sever ties with his boyhood club, who he has represented since he joined them at aged eight. The attacking midfielder played 55 times for the Magpies, and he released an emotional statement on social media following his move to Forest.
Alongside a video showing his progression through the ranks at the club, he wrote: "It’s been a dream come true to represent my club for 14 years. Pulling that black and white shirt on at St James' Park is a moment that will never be taken away from me.
"I would like to thank everyone involved with the club and all the Geordies that have supported me throughout my journey. I will always support the club and wish nothing but the best for everyone involved. As one door closes another one opens. Thank you NUFC."

Anderson's fee of £35m makes him the club's joint-record sale alongside Andy Carroll, who left the Magpies to join Liverpool in January 2011.
The Reds were also partially involved in Newcastle's PSR drama over the weekend, when it emerged that they had been offered the chance to sign Newcastle winger Gordon, but only if they were prepared to allow centre-back Jarell Quansah to leave in part exchange.
Liverpool are huge admirers of Gordon, but they didn't want to lose promising centre-back Quansah, who impressed in his breakthrough campaign last season and is seen as a crucial member of the first-team squad.
Gordon, who was an unused substitute in England's 2-1 win over Slovakia after extra-time at Euro 2024 on Sunday, was quick to react to Anderson's post, and wrote a simple: "Gunna miss you lad."

Speaking about his arrival at Forest to the club's website, Anderson said: “I’m buzzing. I think it’s a massive club with big history and I can’t wait to get started.
“It’s the club and the city. I’ve always been very fond of Nottingham Forest and I think it’s a great place to display what I can do and go onto try and help my career.”
