Andy Murray keeps coy as he confirms he will 'most likely' make decision on playing at Wimbledon TONIGHT - after 'OK' practice session one week after spinal cyst surgery
The two-time champion is battling for fitness in a bid to compete in singles draw Murray underwent surgery after retiring from his Queen's Club warm-up 37-year-old since confirmed that he will play Olympic doubles with Dan Evans
Andy Murray practiced at Wimbledon on Monday morning and afterwards said he would ‘talk to my team, talk to my family’ before deciding whether he would take to the court for a final time here in the singles.
The 37-year-old beat former British No1 Kyle Edmund 6-3, 2-0 in a practice set-and-a-bit but his movement still looked far from normal. He is due to face Czech Tomas Machac on Tuesday, and confirmed after his practice that he would ‘most likely’ make a decision on his fitness tonight.
The two-time champion is recovering from the surgical removal of a spinal cyst that caused his right leg to go almost completely numb at Queen’s. He admitted on Sunday that he still did not have full feeling in the limb.
After the practice, asked how he felt it had went, he replied: ‘It went OK.’ Before joking to reporters: ‘How did you think it went, you’re the experts?’
In my decidedly inexpert view, Murray’s serve seemed to be relatively unaffected and he looked OK moving forward into the net. But lateral movement was a struggle and he hit his backhand – which involves loading the weight on the right leg – worse than his forehand.
Andy Murray is set to make a decision on his fitness for Tuesday's match on Monday night
The 37-year-old underwent spinal surgery just under a week ago but is keen to play his final singles tournament in SW19
The two-time champion is also in the doubles draw to play with his brother Jamie this week
One of the most difficult men in sport to predict is keeping us all guessing right to the end.
He may yet leave his decision to the last moment, but if Tuesday’s order of play is revealed and Murray’s name is on there, the chances of him playing will go from 50/50 to odds on.
