'I don’t combine my finances with my partner - here’s three reasons why'

Combining your finances with your partner is a big step for anyone - and one woman has shared why she refuses to do so. Money expert and TikToker Beth, who posts as @budgetjonesdiary_ has shared three reasons she decided not to join her finances with her partner.
Beth is a chartered accountant and aims to help people save money and "ditch their debt." In the past, she's shared everything from a simple payday routine that makes saving money easier to a list of the different side hustles she's tried over the years.
In a recent post, Beth shared how her finances work alongside her partner's, and why they decided against combining them. The colourful post laid out the three reasons in simple terms; including:
1. No desire to
The post read: "At the moment there’s no need for us to. We contribute evenly to bills and shared goals, whilst remaining independent people and having our own savings."
2. Horror stories
Beth added: "Who knows what the future holds. Adding money into the mix just makes for a more complicated split (for if the worst were to happen!)"
3. Varying income
Finally, the post said: "We have varying incomes and want to avoid the ‘I contributed more’ mindset. We also don’t want to start or feel the need to justify personal spends."
In a note at the bottom, she added: “Personal finance is personal. These are our thoughts towards it and it’s what works for us, but you may disagree and do it completely differently…and that is okay.”
In the caption, Beth went into more detail, sharing how things work in her household. She wrote: "What do finances look like in your household?
"For us we: Split all ‘shared’ expenses 50/50 (mortgage, bills, household bits and bobs basically), contribute evenly to shared goals too (such as the house deposit, spends on decorating), pay for our own expenses separately (hobbies, phone bill, fun money), and save and invest separately…and this is what works for us."
She added: "For context, we are a dual income no kids #dink household. We are quite independent people and our thing has always been, as long as we contribute evenly towards shared goals, then the other can do what the heck they like with their leftover money.
"It’s important to establish what works best for YOU and YOUR relationship, as everyone will be different. We have our reasons why we don’t want to combine finances and you may have your reasons why you would always combine them. That’s the beauty of personal finances.
"I don’t think any way is the ‘right’ way or a one size fits all. But this is one of those topics that is pretty interesting to talk about."
