Severe Storm Risk Pops Up on the Prairies for Canada Day
Now this is a beautiful image of a shelf cloud rolling into Saskatchewan as active weather continues to barrel across the prairies. But on Canada Day, well, it's not only going to be the fireworks that are going to be lighting up the sky. We have a risk of non severe thunderstorms widespread across the prairies spreading into British Columbia as well. But anything in the orange that is going to be a more severe or heightened risk of more severe storms. As we take a look into the forecast for the northern part of the prairies, we will be looking at a combination of a through that is passing across the prairies triggering this active weather but also. An increase in the daytime heating due to the amount of heat warnings in place for the northern edge of Alberta stretching into Manitoba when we take a look toward the southern regions of the Prairies. Well, as the system pushes further towards the east, we do start to see some of those thunderstorms bubbling up as we're going through the afternoon for areas across Saskatchewan and Alberta on the leading edge of this. However, the through that's going to bring periods of heavy rainfall right across regions of Winnipeg as we're heading towards the evening. So maybe not the best when it comes to viewing some of those fireworks. But when we take a look at the totals, we will be looking at a higher amount of rainfall, especially for areas like Winnipeg, thanks to additional moisture seeping in as we're going towards the evening. Looking at upwards of 50mm of rain possible by the time we head into Tuesday.
