Peter Schmeichel has admitted he is 'not sure' on an England forward who 'doesn't work' for Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024.

The Three Lions once again struggled in attack on Sunday night, needing a late Jude Bellingham strike to secure a 1-1 draw and take the game to extra time, with Harry Kane scoring the winner.

A front four of Bellingham, Kane, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden has started every match so far, but calls for at least one of the quartet to be dropped for the quarter-final clash with Switzerland are growing louder.

It remains unliklely that Bellingham or Kane will be shifted, and Foden was the first man to make way on Sunday. Saka, meanwhile, was moved to left back following Kieran Trippier's injury.

Schmeichel, meanwhile, speaking on Fox Sports' coverage of the game, highlighted one player, suggesting he should make way for Cole Palmer at the weekend.

'I said this before,' he began. 'Gareth Southgate, he's got a long, long thing coming now, because there are obvious things that don't work for him.

'I don't think Saka works for him. I think it was much, much better when Palmer came in and played on that side. They had much more joy, it's much more natural when he plays over there.

'Saka tried, tried and tried. OK, he got moved over to the left wing back... I'm not sure.'

Saka has been a favourite of Southgate, but has, alongside the majority of his team, struggled so far playing on the right side of attack at Euro 2024.

Against both Slovenia and Slovakia, Palmer was brought on, seemingly providing more of a threat in the same position.

On Sunday, Saka moved to left back when Trippier left the field, before playing at right wing back in extra time as England looked to see the game out.

He returned 20 goals and 14 assists in 47 appearances last season, while Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer, netted 27 times in his debut campaign, registering another 15 assists.

Southgate, meanwhile, has revealed he is prepared to make what could prove to be an unpopular decision for for of his players when England take on Switzerland.

A solution at left back may be needed depending on Trippier's fitness, and the England boss suggested Saka could well be the one to fill the void.

'We felt that Bukayo at left-back gave us an extra attacking outlet,' Southgate told Radio 5 Live after the 2-1 win. 'It is a good option to have.

'I have to say the courage shown by the players was fantastic tonight.'
