Dry July begins: Dietician highlights benefits of reducing alcohol
So there's some wonderful health benefits to giving up, giving up alcohol, whether it's for a month or whether it's taking a longer break. You can look short term and some of the short term benefits are improved mental focus, improve sleep, improve clarity. Longer term we're looking at things like reduced risk of cancer, improved brain health overall, as well as improved weight management. There certainly is a significant increase. So around two in five people are now either participating in dry, July, Feb, fast or or some other month throughout the year. And statistics are showing that 84% of people are actually disagreeing that taking a break is still socially unacceptable. So there's really a larger increase in people who are wanting to reduce their consumption of alcohol and, and really rape the health benefits. So I think it really comes down to if you choose to have a drink, make sure that you don't overdo it and have something that you enjoy. Sip it slowly and make sure you drink plenty of water along with that to make sure that you're keeping yourself as healthy as possible throughout. And my suggestion would be choose the thing that you actually really enjoy. And there's always going to be people talking about the lower calorie options or. You know, there's a few little nutrients that you'll find in some red wine, but I'd suggest choose your favorite and make sure that you only have one or two.
