Sachin Tendulkar identifies 'two crucial moments' as Rohit Sharma's India beat Australia at T20 World Cup 2024

NEW DELHI: India secured a 24-run victory over Australia at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in a thrilling Super Eights match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on Monday. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to his official X account to highlight two crucial moments that defined India's win.

"Well done, India! Two crucial moments defined our victory today: @akshar2026's brilliant catch at the boundary and @Jaspritbumrah93's wicket of Travis Head. Can't wait for the semi-finals," Tendulkar wrote on X.

The match saw India set a formidable target of 205 runs, thanks to significant contributions from the batting lineup. Captain Rohit Sharma was particularly explosive, scoring 92 runs off just 41 balls, including 14 boundaries and eight sixes. Suryakumar Yadav also made a vital contribution with a quickfire 31 off 16 balls. Despite early setbacks, India managed to post an imposing total.

Australia's chase began with a solid start, but Arshdeep Singh struck early, dismissing David Warner for a duck. Travis Head kept Australia's hopes alive with a robust 76 off 43 balls, but his dismissal at the hands of Jasprit Bumrah was a turning point. Bumrah's precise delivery had Head caught by Rohit Sharma, stalling Australia's momentum.

Another pivotal moment was Axar Patel's exceptional catch at the boundary to dismiss Australian captain Mitchell Marsh, who was looking dangerous with 37 runs off 28 balls. Patel's agility and presence of mind ensured Marsh's departure, further tilting the match in India's favour.

Kuldeep Yadav also played a crucial role with the ball, taking two key wickets, including Glenn Maxwell, who was clean-bowled for 20 runs. Arshdeep Singh ended with impressive figures of 3 for 37, including the crucial wickets of Warner and Tim David.

Australia struggled to keep up with the required run rate and ended their innings at 181 for 7. India's bowlers maintained pressure, and the fielders backed them with sharp catches and tight fielding.

With this victory, India qualified for the semi-finals, where they will face England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday.
