Yulo eyes redemption in Paris Olympics
CARLOS Yulo aims to channel all his frustrations from his previous Olympics stint in his revenge tour at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
The decorated gymnast is keen on avenging his previous finish in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he came up short to be in the podium.
“All of my competition will serve as my revenge from the past Olympics. I was frustrated that time since I did not perform the way I wanted to perform but now I am learning with every mistake, and with every competition that I joined,” Yulo told The Manila Times after his training at the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) in Intramuros, Manila.
Now back in the Philippines after his gold-silver performance in the World Cup Series in Baku and Doha, Yulo shared that he is more mature to conquer tougher battles.

“This time I can feel and I can say that I am mentally and emotionally ready. I am more confident to perform and do better executions.”
After bagging the gold in the World Cup Series in Doha (parallel bar apparatus), Yulo now shifts his focus to what is coming and will test his proficiency in the upcoming Asian Championships.
“Right now, out of 10, my condition is around 6-7, since I rested for a while after the World Cup Series. But yes, I think we will know my peak form around the month of July since I will also join the Asian Championships. From there, I want to test my limits and how I can improve in different apparatus,” he said.
“After that, I will try to improve my level of execution and difficulty in all categories.”
GAP president Cynthia Carrion also shared her excitement for Yulo’s upcoming Olympics competition, as Yulo is stronger mentally.
“I mean the Tokyo for me, the Tokyo Olympics he was still too young, and we did not have a psychologist then. For me, the mind and the emotion are very very strong. Emotion is strong, even if your skills are very good, but if you don’t have a strong mind, and emotions you can’t make it,” Carrion told The Times.
Proving that the mind is stronger than the body, Yulo mentioned how the weather in the Philippines is also a thing that he is trying to adjust to.
Coming from Doha where the temperature is also high, Yulo mentioned the difference in the training center. But still, this would not stop him from being focused on his goal.
“The weather is the same, the difference is when it comes to facilities. It is not air-conditioned here, but I also got sick overseas since my body went through hot and cold temperatures from time to time. I did not have a difficult time adjusting here in the Philippines, but it is just really hot,” Yulo said.
As hot as the scorching sun, Yulo is on fire to take home a medal in the Paris Olympics as after the interview he returns and readies himself for the second part of his training.
