Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau take part in a working lunch session at the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, on Friday, May 19, 2023.
OUR BUFFOON
Re: “Newspaper calls Trudeau a ‘buffoon’ after lecturing Italian PM”
Ah, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is OUR buffoon. Born and raised in Canada (with multiple international vacations between domestic stopovers) and re-elected thanks to sycophantic southern Ontario and Quebec woke-heads he bribes with handouts of their own money.
As that Pogo comic strip (too old to be called a “graphic novel”) proclaimed, “We have met the enemy and he is us.” All ours.
Italian PM Meloni is head of a sovereign nation. How would our current PM like it if she lectured him about abolishing Canadian history and restricting national symbols? Not at all, I suspect.
Best for all of us if our National Buffoon shuts up.
DYAN CROSS
OTTAWA
(Our prime minister sure knows how to generate headlines when he’s abroad. Unfortunately.)
HANDLES ON BOTH SIDES
Regarding the anti-capitalist café in Toronto that is shutting down due to a lack of capital, if The Anarchist café were truly egalitarian it would have coffee mugs with handles on both sides. As a left-handed person, I often have to rotate a mug in order to hold it properly. I’m sure right-handed people often have the same problem. Left-handedness is a form of neurodiversity, which remains largely invisible to society as a whole. Fortunately, a recent series of competent left-handed American presidents — George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama — have given our group renewed prominence.
The article mentions that The Anarchist has a pay-what-you-can option. My opinion of such options depends on the time of the month. If I have just clipped my coupons (struggling with right-handed scissors), then I am unlikely to frequent such an establishment. However, by the end of the month, I would be happy to visit one.

(Perhaps we need cafés that welcome both those on the left and those on the right with equal enthusiasm.)
NOT FORGOTTEN
Re: United as a family; Community of first responders grieve together, May 18
Now retired more than 20 years, on duty the night David Kirkwood was lost and in attendance at his funeral — a time not forgotten. Thank you to Bruce Deachman for your column of support.
