Xiaomi had introduced the first ever Redmi-branded smart TV in India earlier this year and is now set to expand the portfolio by adding a newer model to the line-up. Xiaomi will launch the new Redmi smart TV during an online event on September 22 or Wednesday. The smart TV is tipped to come in two different screen sizes.
The strategy is simple and what probably worked for company’s smartphone business. The Mi TVsOops! The Xiaomi TVs will be company’s premium offerings. They will come with top-of-the-line features and make no compromises. Meanwhile, the Redmi TVs will have everything that customers need at an affordable price.
While this sounds like a solid plan on paper, there will be some overlap, and we have already seen that. The Redmi Smart TV X Series was launched in March this year in three sizes, priced at Rs 32,999 for the 50-inch variant, Rs 38,999 for the 65-inch variant, and Rs 57,999 for the top-end 65-inch variant. All the TVs were 4K HDR LED models and had similar specifications and features.
Now, very recently Xiaomi has launched the Mi TV 5X series which costs Rs 31,999 for the 43-inch model, while the 50-inch model is priced at Rs 41,999. The 55-inch variant sets you back by Rs 47,999.
The price difference between the Redmi TV X series and Mi TV 5X models isn’t much. Yet, you get some genuine upgrades on the Mi TVs like an all-aluminium frame, louder 40W speakers, support for both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The quality of the panel is also better on the Mi TVs.
Coming to the new Redmi TV which will be unveiled on September 22, Xiaomi has kept most features and specifications under wraps. Still, we know that it will be launched in two screen sizes 32-inch and 43-inch. The dedicated microsite for the launch also reveals that the TV will have 20W speakers and support for Dolby Audio and DTS Virtual: X for surround sound.
On the webpage, Xiaomi has also confirmed that the new Redmi TV will feature Android TV 11 out of the box. This operating system will further be complemented by Xiaomi’s own PatchWall on top. Other features on offer include dual band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, auto low latency mode and more. The display will use Vivid Picture Engine.
The company claims that this is the first time that a smart TV in this price category will feature Android TV 11. This brings us to the question what should be this incredible price?
Xiaomi had made a lot of noise with its smart TVs that were initially priced as low as Rs 15,000 for the 32-inch models. The Mi 4A Pro (32-inch), for example, is still priced at Rs 16,999 on Flipkart. However, with a greater focus on the Mi brand and increased demand for larger screen sizes, we haven’t seen much action at that price segment lately. The new Redmi TVs can change that.
You can expect the new 32-inch Redmi TV to be priced less than Rs 20,000, if not Rs 15,000. Another reason to believe this is that the 50-inch model of the Redmi TV X series was introduced at Rs 32,999 and the 43-inch variant of the new variant should definitely cost less than that. I won’t be surprised if it’s on either side of Rs 25,000.
The official pricing of both the variants will be known during the launch event. Regardless, the new Redmi TVs will be aggressively priced just like most Xiaomi products.
