BJP Files Complaint With ECI Against Mamata Banerjee For Remark During Election Rally

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday filed a complaint against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with the Election Commission. The saffron regiment has alleged that Banerjee tried to incite voters to violence while addressing a public meeting. It also claimed that the remark was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

“You are requested to take immediate steps against the continued provocative statement made by Smt. Mamata Banerjee,” the complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, said. The BJP, in its complaint to the EC, claimed that she had said, “They had the courage to say chor chor on seeing my car, if I had the opportunity would have pulled their tongues out, because of elections I did not say anything.”

Mamata Banerjee’s Remark

Banerjee, while addressing an election rally at Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri district on Tuesday, claimed that some BJP members shouted “chor chor” targeting her convoy in the Chalsa area.

While expressing her anguish over the incident at Chalsa, Banerjee said that she does not even draw her MP pension or salary as an MLA or the chief minister.

“I travel in my own car and do not use a government vehicle. I wear simple clothes and lead a simple life. I even pay for expenses such as a cup of tea,” she had said while addressing the rally.

Complaint Against Mamata Banerjee For Remark In Coochbehar

After filing a complaint against Mamata Banerjee for the statement that she made in Coochbehar, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul said, “The day before yesterday, she (Mamata Banerjee) while addressing Muslim brothers said that those who celebrate Ramnavami tried to incite riots. How daring she is. She was inciting Muslim brothers so that riots could happen and hence we came here to lodge an FIR. The duty officer said that I wouldn’t be able to lodge the FIR, after that we blocked the roads, and half an hour later, IC came and received our complaint.”

BJP Accuses Mamata Of Insulting Ram Navami

The BJP on Wednesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of linking the Ram Navami festival with disharmony, claiming that her comments reflect INDIA bloc leaders’ insulting mindset for the country’s culture.

Greeting the people on Ram Navami, Banerjee had in a post on X appealed to “maintain peace, prosperity, and development for all”.

Reacting to her post, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said her appeal to maintain peace implies that she is linking the festival to disturbance or disharmony.

“This is totally an insult to the festival of Ram Navami,” the BJP MP told reporters.
