The Xiaomi 12 series has seen a plethora of leaks in recent times. It was earlier reported that the smartphone could launch on December 12. However, according to a fresh leak that hints towards a December 28 launch, that may not be true. The upcoming Xiaomi 12 is reported to be the next flagship device from the brand. It is likely to take over the Xiaomi 11 launched last year.
The Xiaomi 12 is tipped to be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming high-end chipset. The name of the chipset will be revealed at an event tomorrow. But, for now, we have come across names like 8 Gen 1 or 8Gx Gen 1.
Interestingly, Xiaomi 12 is rumoured to switch to a Samsung ISOCELL GN5 50-megapixel primary sensor over the 108-megapixel main camera on the Mi 11. The device may bring support for 100W charging as per a leak. Along with this, Xiaomi 12 is expected to feature an AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. There may also be a new generation under-display fingerprint scanner onboard. While that was a brief description of the Xiaomi 12, we have more details to share with you, so let’s get started.
Xiaomi 12: Specs and features
–Xiaomi launched its flagship Mi 11 series on December 28 last year. Now leaks are hinting towards a December launch of the next-gen Xiaomi 12 series. Multiple launch dates have been suggested for the upcoming launch. While a previous leak suggested a December 12 launch. The newly leaked screenshot of an internal document hints towards a December 28 launch. The document says that Xiaomi will hold a press conference for the product announcement. However, there has been no confirmation from Xiaomi yet, so we suggest you take this information with a pinch of salt.
–Xiaomi is rumoured to use Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship chipset set to arrive tomorrow, i.e. November 30. A couple of names are being aired for this upcoming chipset. A few reports believe that the chipset will be called 8 Gen 1, while the others point towards 8Gx Gen 1 moniker. Qualcomm chipsets have been named “8cx” in the past. So the claim could be true.
–Leaks suggest that Xiaomi 12 could feature a curved OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display may have a centred punch-hole camera on the front. Reports suggest that Xiaomi may use an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for authentication. Samsung has been using the tech on its flagship smartphones. It is said that Ultrasonic fingerprint scanners are more accurate than optical ones. This could be a nice addition if the rumours are true.
–Xiaomi 12 is expected to get up to 12GB RAM and 1TB of onboard storage. The Xiaomi 11 got up to 8GB RAM and 256 GB of onboard storage. So the possibility of Xiaomi 12 being offered with 1TB storage is bleak. That said, any top model from the lineup could get this amount of storage.
–The Xiaomi 11 was equipped with a 108-megapixel camera system. So it is now to be seen what changes Xiaomi makes to improve the camera system on its upcoming flagship. If we go by the leaks, Xiaomi 12 will get a 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GN5 primary camera. Besides this, Xiaomi 12 is said to offer 100W charging.
–We have also heard about another model named Xiaomi 12X. The device is rumoured to ship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870. It may sport a 6.28-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Along with that, it is said to sport a 50-megapixel primary lens and a 20-megapixel shooter for selfies on the front. Finally, Xiaomi 12X could be equipped with a 5000mAh battery with support for 67W wired charging and 33W wireless charging.
Xiaomi 12 launch
There are a bunch of reports hinting towards a December launch for Xiaomi 12. However, a more recent leak reveals a launch on December 28. Earlier reports pointed out a launch on December 12, but that is unlikely to take place as per the new report.
Xiaomi 12 India price (expected)
The price of Xiaomi 12 has not been leaked. However, we know that Mi 11 starts at 3999 Yuan (roughly Rs 46,600) in China. So keeping that in mind, we can expect Xiaomi 12 to be priced under Rs 50,000 in the country.
