Xbox series X stock - live: Today's UK restock news from Game, Microsoft, Argos and more

Update: The Xbox series X stock is in stock at Microsoft and Game.

Launched in November 2020, the Xbox series X is still suffering ongoing supply chain issues stemming from the global shortage of microchips, making it almost impossible for shoppers to find Microsoft’s next-generation console in stock online.

The Xbox series S is the less powerful version of the console and is easier to find in stock at most UK stores, but the more advanced Xbox series X is in higher demand. New stock appears without warning and sells out in minutes.

The console is currently sold out across the board but if you want to know where to buy an Xbox series X today, we’ve got you covered. Our stock tracking liveblog will update you with the latest stock drops as soon as they happen, as well as any news on predicted restock dates and milestone events.

Oh no, what’s this? The cleaner must have unplugged our special Xbox stock tracking machine last night… it’s been completely powered down all day, and the Xbox series X has been in stock everywhere! Even Tesco.

Nah, only joking. There were definitely no Xboxes in stock today. Microsoft’s next-generation console continues to be sold out everywhere.

We’ve high hopes for an Argos restock at the tail end of the week. And come to think of it, Game is coming up on two weeks without an Xbox restock. So let’s keep an eye on those guys.

Join us again tomorrow to be the first to know when the Xbox series X is in stock – it won’t be long now. Bye bye!

Xbox elite wireless controller 2 has £5 off at Smyths

The Xbox elite wireless controller series 2 (£154.99, Smythstoys.com) can be picked up with a £5 discount right now. Half the price of an Xbox series S (£249.99, Argos.co.uk), this pro-level pad features three customisable profiles, adjustable-tension thumbsticks, a wrap-around rubberised grip and shortened hair-trigger locks.

If you don’t know what any of that means, the regular Xbox wireless controller might be more your speed (£49.99, Game.co.uk).

What is Xbox All Access?

15:41 , Steve Hogarty

When the Xbox series X is back in stock at Game and Smyths, it’s often sold exclusively through the Xbox All Access programme. But what is that exactly?

Xbox All Access is a payment plan that lets you spread the cost of the Xbox series X or Xbox series S over two years. Rather than pay £449 for the console up front, you pay 24 monthly instalments of £28.99.

© Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

This includes two years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the games subscription service allowing you to access more than 100 games on demand, including the likes of Microsoft Flight Simulator (£59.99, Argos.co.uk).

What’s the difference between Xbox series X and series S?

15:01 , Steve Hogarty

© Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

There are two next-gen Xboxes, the less powerful Xbox series S and the best-in-class Xbox series X.

Next-generation Xbox games will run on both consoles, though on the less powerful Xbox series S the overall graphics quality will be dialled down. The Xbox series S does not have a disc drive, has half the storage and can only play downloaded games. The Xbox series S is much easier to find in stock than the series X. It’s also cheaper and costs just £249 (Amazon.co.uk).

Here are the details, if you’re into comparing teraflops.

Xbox series S specs:

  • CPU: Custom Zen 2 8-core CPU
  • GPU: 4 TFLOPS, 20 CUS
  • Memory: 10GB GDDR6
  • Storage: 512GB SSD
  • Resolution: 1440p at 60fps

Xbox series X specs:

  • CPU: AMD 8-core Zen 2 @ 3.8 GHz
  • GPU: 12TFLOPS, 52 CUs @ 1.825 GHz
  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6
  • Storage: 1TB custom WD SSD, optional 1T
  • Resolution: 4K at 60fps

The best VPN for Xbox series X

14:20 , Steve Hogarty

While we wait for the Xbox series X to come back in stock, let’s talk about everyone’s favourite topic: online data security.

The Xbox series X has excellent built-in security when playing games online, but there are a few reasons why you might want to install a VPN on an Xbox. If you use your Xbox to watch stream TV shows and movies, a VPN allows you to spoof your location and access content not normally available in your country.

To keep your Xbox series X at peak performance, you’ll want to make sure the VPN you choose is fast and responsive enough to avoid lag and dropouts playing online. To help you out, we’ve rounded up the best VPNs for torrenting, streaming and gaming.

‘Halo Infinite’ still doesn’t have a release date

Notably absent from last night’s big Microsoft games showcase was its shiniest show pony, Halo Infinite (pre-order for £54.99, Game.co.uk). The blockbuster FPS has been repeatedly delayed, in large part due to the same pandemic-related issues that have crippled production of Xbox series X stock.

Microsoft could be keeping its powder dry for a bigger reveal during tonight’s Gamescom Opening Night Live event – an industry wide livestream that includes the biggest new releases and upcoming games from developers and publishers around the world. The event kicks off at 19:00 tonight over on the Gamescom official YouTube channel.

‘Forza Horizon 5’ is looking spicy on Xbox series X

13:03 , Steve Hogarty

We’re still on the lookout for Xbox series X stock, but while we wait let’s recall one of the biggest reasons we want to get our hands on the next-gen console.

Last night during the publisher’s Gamescom livestream, Microsoft treated us to another look at Playground Games’ spectacular Forza Horizon 5 (pre-order for £54.99, Very.co.uk). The new trailer reveals a big chunk of early gameplay, and it looks stunning.

The open world multiplayer racing game is one of the Xbox series X’s most hotly anticipated games. It launches 9 November on Xbox series X and Xbox series S, as well PC and Xbox One. It will also be available to Game Pass subscribers.

Will there be Xbox stock in time for Christmas?

12:01 , Steve Hogarty

The global shortage of silicon semiconductors – a vital component in everything from electric toothbrushes to cars – is still wreaking havoc on supply chains everywhere.

Smartphone manufacturers could be in trouble next. Companies like Samsung, Huawei and Apple had so far been insulated from the problem as they stockpiled microchips, but now those supplies are running out and increased demand for chips from other industries is ramping up costs even further.

Far from being over, the semiconductor shortage looks set to continue. If you’re expecting an Xbox under the Christmas tree this year, we’ll do our best to help you track one down.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate cloud gaming on Xbox One

11:29 , Steve Hogarty

This could take the edge off not being able to find an Xbox series X in stock: Microsoft has announced that cloud gaming is coming to the Xbox One later this year.

Previously only available on PC, tablets and phones, Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games directly from Microsoft’s servers without requiring any downloads or installation. To trot out my tired one-line explainer yet again: it’s like being on a high-quality Zoom call with a game you’re in control of.

This means you can instantly join friends in multiplayer games you don’t own, just by pressing a button, or experience next-generation games on older consoles. You’ll need a fast internet connection and membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (£32.99, Argos.co.uk), which unlocks on-demand access to more than 100 games.

Helicopters are coming to ‘Flight Simulator’

11:08 , Steve Hogarty

It’s an achingly slow morning for Xbox series X restocks, so let’s take a closer look at some of the games showcased during yesterday’s big Gamescom livestream.

Perhaps the most exciting thing to happen in games since the Nokia N-Gage, Microsoft Flight Simulator (£59.99, Argos.co.uk) is finally getting helicopters. Well, almost.

The VoloCity is an “electric air taxi” that Microsoft is careful never to describe as a helicopter. It might look like something from science-fiction, but this concept aircraft is a real thing. Its creator Volocopter expect we’ll all be Ubering around in the sky in them by 2030.

We’ll stick to the Northern Line, we reckon.

Will Currys restock the Xbox series X today?

10:28 , Steve Hogarty

Currys PC World restocked the Xbox series X on 19 August. The console sold out in 20 minutes as more than 20,000 rabid customers swarmed the electronics retailer’s website.

We recommend you download the app and slip the Xbox series X into your “save for later” list.

When a drop happens, the main Currys PC World site can be quickly overwhelmed by a surge in traffic. By using the app you can avoid the queues and essentially sneak round the back entrance, behind the wheelie bins.

What’s happening with Xbox stock at Game?

10:08 , Steve Hogarty

The Xbox series X is not in stock at Game right now, but we’re expecting another drop from the retailer soon. The store most recently had availability of the console on 13 August, and before that on 3 August, so could restock again as early the end of this week.

Game is one of three retailers to sell the Xbox All Access programme, the £28.99 per month, Klarna-powered alternative to stumping up the full £449 at once.

Is the Xbox series X in stock at AO.com?

09:46 , Steve Hogarty

It’s been a while since AO.com last restocked.

The Xbox series X was last available to buy on 3 August, and was sold as part of a bundle costing £614. The bundle included a charging dock, extra controller and wireless gaming headset.

Bundles tend to stay in stock longer as they’re slightly more expensive and less appealing to scalpers as the bundled accessories eat into their potential profit margins.

Bundles are also a way for retailers to sell off unwanted games and old accessories, so watch out for that.

‘Forza Horizon 5’ revealed on Xbox Gamescom livestream

09:15 , Steve Hogarty

Missed Microsoft’s Xbox Gamescom livestream last night? You can rewatch the entire thing here while we wait for the perpetually sold-out console to materialise.

Notable highlights include a whole bunch of new details on Forza Horizon 5 (pre-order for £54.99, Very.co.uk) as well as a peek at some of the new corners of the world we’ll be exploring in Microsoft Flight Simulator (£59.99, Argos.co.uk).

When is the Xbox in stock at Microsoft?

09:02 , Steve Hogarty

Let’s take a look a few more Xbox retailers, and see what’s up.

You’d think the Microsoft Store would be overflowing with Xboxes, right? Satya Nadella standing there in a big pair of waders, up to his thighs in a tide of consoles, begging you to please one them off his hands.

But you’d be wrong. The official storefront for the Xbox series X hasn’t restocked since 10 August, when the console became available for the first time in three months. We don’t expect to see more stock there again soon.

When will Smyths have the Xbox series X in stock?

08:48 , Steve Hogarty

Smyths Toys is currently sold out of the Xbox series X, but could have more stock arriving soon.

The retailer restocked the Xbox All Access programme on 5 August. We also hear that it’s possible to find the console in certain physical stores, if you ask nicely.

When the Xbox is in stock online, Smyths is one of three retailers – along with Game and 4Gadgets – to offer the Xbox All Access programme, a pay-as-you-go alternative to buying the console at full price. You pay £28.99 per month for 24 months, get Xbox Game Pass Ultimate thrown in, and own the console at the end of the term.

Where is the Xbox series X in stock today?

08:30 , Steve Hogarty

Let’s make sure we’re all on the same page here, the Xbox is sold out across the board right now.

Yesterday’s restock at Very has left a stock vacuum waiting to be filled, and we predict that Argos could be the next retailer to step up.

The catalogue shop last restocked the Xbox series X on 5 August and rarely goes more than four weeks without fresh supplies. We’re also hearing reports that in-store staff are promising more consoles will hit the shelves* on Friday.

*Metaphorically speaking, Argos doesn’t have shelves and keeps everything in a big storeroom out the back.

Good morning, Xbox hunters!

Given the scale of yesterday’s Xbox restock at Very, we expect we’ve got considerably fewer readers joining us on our console search today.

Xbox stock trackers, signing off

Tuesday 24 August 2021 17:01 , Steve Hogarty

If you’ve been following this Xbox stock tracking liveblog for a while, you’ll remember how – in the absence of any concrete rumours – we’d parp on about how some online retailers were likely to drop both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox series X at the same time.

Well today, that’s precisely what happened. Very, in a display of profound confidence in the integrity of its own servers, restocked the PS5 and Xbox series X simultaneously.

It was like watching the planets align, or seeing three buses come along at once, and it’s reinvigorated our hunt for Microsoft’s next-generation console.

Join us again tomorrow morning for more Xbox restock updates as they happen. All eyes are on Argos for the next drop.

Differences between the Xbox series X and series S

Tuesday 24 August 2021 16:07 , Steve Hogarty

© Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

The Xbox series X and Xbox series S both run the same next-generation games (as well as older Xbox games through backwards compatibility), but the cheaper Xbox series S has less processing power under the bonnet. This means graphics won’t look as detailed and performance may be a little slower.

For that reason, the Xbox series X is considered to be the “true” next-generation console here – but both consoles are excellent games machines. The Xbox series S has another big advantage in that it’s much easier to find in stock than the Xbox series X.

The Xbox series S costs £249 (Amazon.co.uk), which looks positively bargainous compared to the Xbox series X at £449.

What resolution is the Xbox series X?

Tuesday 24 August 2021 15:09 , Steve Hogarty

Managed to grab an Xbox series X at Very this morning? Well you might need a new TV to get the most out of it.

The Xbox series X can output at 8K resolution, though in practice the most you’ll ever see next-generation games running at is 4K. At lower resolutions, certain games can refresh the screen 120 times per second, producing an eerily lifelike type of motion that the average TV can’t handle.

That’s why many Xbox series X players use gaming monitors rather than TVs. Check out our round-up of the best gaming monitors to help you choose.

The new wired Xbox headset is now available in the UK

Tuesday 24 August 2021 14:10 , Steve Hogarty

Last week Microsoft announced a new wired gaming headset (£54.99, Xbox.com). Now it’s available to pre-order in the UK.

The official headset is similar to the wireless model already available (£89.99, Argos.co.uk), but removes a few features such as on-ear audio mixing – adjusting the volume of voice chat and game audio – to bring the price down. Otherwise, it’s very similar to the wireless model, complete with a right earcup that rotates to adjust volume and a mute button on the back of the flexible microphone. Dolby Atmos, Windows Sonics and DTS:X are all supported, and it connects to your gamepad with a 3.5mm audio cable.

Here’s how to play Xbox games on your laptop

Tuesday 24 August 2021 13:22 , Steve Hogarty

Ordered an Xbox series X from Very earlier today? Your console won’t arrive for a couple of week, but you can start playing Xbox games right now.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can play a limited selection of Xbox games on their PC right now using Microsoft’s cloud streaming service.

You don’t even need a gaming PC, just a fast enough internet connection. Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games from Microsoft’s servers to your laptop or phone, via your internet browser or the Xbox app. You’ll need a membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (£32.99, Argos.co.uk), which unlocks on-demand access to more than 100 games.

Thankfully, decent laptops are much easier to find than the Xbox series X. If you’re thinking of upgrading, check out our list of the best laptops in 2021.

The Xbox series X is now sold out at Very

Tuesday 24 August 2021 12:43 , Steve Hogarty

We’re calling it – the Xbox series X is no longer in stock at Very.

Congratulations to everyone who managed to grab one.

Finally got myself an XBOX series X, from very if anyone is interested. They’ve had a couple of drops today it seems… #xbox #XboxSeriesX #xboxuk

— Phil Newens (@phil_newens) August 24, 2021

We’ll keep checking on Very for more Xbox restocks throughout the day. Returns and cancelled orders mean single consoles can pop back into stock momentarily, but it’s unlikely we’ll have another significant drop by the retailer this afternoon.

Stick with us on the Xbox stock tracker liveblog for more live updates as they happen.

Argos is rumoured to restock on Friday

Tuesday 24 August 2021 12:13 , Steve Hogarty

Tired of staring at the countdown timer in Very’s waiting room? We feel you.

You might have more luck at Argos later this week. Some customers are being told by in-store Argos staff that a restock of Microsoft’s next-generation console is coming on Friday.

There’s no word of an online restock yet, so check with your local store to see if you can be added to an Xbox pre-order list.

The Xbox series X is almost sold out at Very

Tuesday 24 August 2021 12:09 , Steve Hogarty

Most customers who manage to progress through the Xbox series X waiting room at Very are now being faced with an “out of stock” message.

However, a lucky handful of shoppers still see the option to add the Xbox to their trolley once they finally arrive on the product page.

The number of consoles available at Very now appears to be approaching zero. If we had to guess, only those customers who have been patiently bouncing around in waiting rooms for a while have a chance of finding the Xbox in stock. Shoppers who jump into the waiting room now are unlikely to be able to grab an Xbox.

If you’ve got the patience, we’d advise you to stick around in that waiting room.

Here’s how to buy the Xbox series X at Very

Tuesday 24 August 2021 10:21 , Steve Hogarty

Very has restocked the Xbox series X. Refreshing the page too often will block you out of the website and lock you in the waiting room.

Try these steps to appear as a new customer in as many waiting rooms as you can.

  • Use incognito mode in your browser to open this Very link.
  • Turn off wifi on your phone (using mobile data gives you a new IP address) and use incognito mode on your phone’s browser to open this Very link.
  • Keep both waiting room pages open, don’t refresh the page.
  • Try using the Very app to buy the Xbox through your wish list.
  • Got a VPN? Connect to a random UK server and try the Very link again. Use a separate device – a laptop or a tablet – to avoid interrupting any other waiting rooms you’ve got open.

Very’s website is having a difficult time right now

Tuesday 24 August 2021 09:58 , Steve Hogarty

Very made an estimated 12,000 PlayStation 5 consoles available to purchase at 9:15am today. The ensuing rush of customers broke the retailer’s website and forced it to delay the restock.

Now – amid all of this carnage – Very’s Xbox series X product page has gone live too. Customers are being funnelled into a waiting room, though nobody has managed to find their way out of it just yet.

This could be a glitch, triggered by the server outage brought on by the PS5 restock. Or it could be a bonafide Xbox restock.

When will Amazon restock the Xbox series X?

Tuesday 24 August 2021 09:31 , Steve Hogarty

Let’s run through a few UK retailers and rate their chances of restocking the Xbox series X today. First up, Amazon.

It’s been 41 days since Amazon last restocked the Xbox series X, though supply was so limited the console was only on sale for around two minutes.

Whereas Amazon restricts sales of Sony’s next-generation console to Prime customers, the Xbox gets no such protection. As such it’s exposed to automated bots and unscrupulous resellers and sells out in the blink of an eye.

You have to have fast fingers to get one into your basket. Make sure you’re signed into your Amazon account, and ensure your payment and delivery information is up to date. If you haven’t already, register for a 30 day trial of Amazon Prime in case the Xbox series X is exclusively available to those hallowed customers.

Very could restock the Xbox series X this morning

Tuesday 24 August 2021 09:12 , Steve Hogarty

“We’re not a PS5 liveblog. We’re not a PS5 liveblog.”

That’s the mantra we repeat to ourselves every morning, but often when Sony’s console is blessed with a big ol’ restock, Microsoft’s console isn’t far behind.

But 30 seconds ago, Very restocked 12,000 PlayStation 5 consoles. Buy a PS5 now, you traitor.

In the absence of anything better to do, we suggest you keep your eyes trained on Very’s Xbox product page for any potential surprises.

Six retailers could restock the PS5 today

Tuesday 24 August 2021 08:56 , Steve Hogarty

While we hang around here gradually forgetting what an Xbox series X even looks like, over on our PlayStation 5 stock tracking liveblog they’re predicting a torrent of PS5s arriving today.

No fewer than six UK retailers are now expected to cough up Sony’s new console, including Amazon, Asda, John Lewis & Partners, Very and AO.

How do you find an Xbox series X in store?

Tuesday 24 August 2021 08:41 , Steve Hogarty

Our highly specialised Xbox stock tracker tools (ie. a handful of chatrooms and a set of constantly refreshing Chrome tabs) are best at detecting online stock of Microsoft’s next-generation console. Keeping track of the Xbox series X in physical stores is trickier, but can be done. We rely on tips from shoppers, reports from Twitter, and the occasional text message from my mother.

Here are some tips for finding the Xbox series X in stock out there:

  • The retailers rumoured to have in-store stock are Argos and Smyths Toys. To a lesser extent we’ve heard of John Lewis & Partners, Currys PC World and Game having physical stock.
  • Enter your post code on the retailer’s online product page to check for local stock. If you can, scroll around to peek at other stores farther away from you.
  • Xbox not in stock? Don’t lose hope. Many stores don’t log returns or uncollected Xbox pre-orders back into their stock systems. Pop into your local shop in person and ask a member of staff.

Is Argos about to restock the Xbox series X?

Tuesday 24 August 2021 08:18 , Steve Hogarty

So, who do we think might restock the Xbox today?

Argos keeps dropping hints to customers in store that Microsoft’s next-gen console will be restocked this week, and Smyths Toys has been doing the same.

Are the retailers toying with us? We’d expect that from a toy shop, sure, but Argos sells more than just toys. It sells things like blenders and paddling pools and pocket calculators. Smyths might be japesters – just look at that logo – but surely Argos can be trusted?

We don’t know. But we’ll soon find out.

Welcome back to the Xbox series X stock tracking liveblog. If you couldn’t join us yesterday, well, let me quickly get you back up to speed.

There were no Xboxes yesterday.

But we’ve higher hopes for Tuesday. Follow us for the latest Xbox restock news as it happens.

Xbox stock trackers, signing off

Monday 23 August 2021 16:49 , Steve Hogarty

Well there’s no easy way to break this to you, but we’ve had an entirely Xbox-free Monday.

We’ve had our ears to the ground, listening out for faintly plausible rumours of upcoming restocks, and we’ve heard nothing concrete.

  • Argos in Bristol might have some consoles in stock at the weekend.
  • Smyths Toys could restock in some stores this week.
  • There was a cloud that looked a little bit like an Xbox controller above east London this afternoon.

Mondays are usually slow, so we’re anticipating more Xbox series X activity as the week progresses. Keep on eye on the Microsoft Store, which sometimes restocks in the evenings. And in the morning – just before we start up our liveblog again – John Lewis & Partners could have one of its infamous 7am drops.

Join us again tomorrow to be the first to know when the Xbox rears its pretty little head. Bye bye!

Can you use Xbox Game Pass on PC?

Monday 23 August 2021 16:28 , Steve Hogarty

© Provided by The Independent The Ascent is available on Game Pass right now (Curve Digital)

One way to get around the lack of Xbox series X stock? Use Xbox Game Pass on your PC to play a selection of Xbox games.

For the uninitiated, Xbox Game Pass allows you to pay a flat monthly fee to access a rolling library of hundreds of games, rather than purchasing games outright. It also lets you play games via cloud streaming – which is essentially like being on a Zoom call with a game you’re controlling.

Launched back in 2017, Xbox Game Pass was billed as gaming’s answer to Netflix. The service unlocks a library of more than 100 games, which you are free to download and play at your leisure, so long as you keep paying the subscription fee.

The PC-only version and the standard console-only version of Xbox Game Pass both cost £7.99 (or $9.99) per month. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate enables cloud gaming over the internet and is currently discounted to just £1.

Confused about Game Pass? We don’t blame you. Have a read of our explainer and we’ll tell you everything you need to know:

Much like every other retailer right now, the Xbox series X is currently out of stock at John Lewis & Partners. The last drops we’ve seen have been in mid-June, late April, and on two occasions in March, each time selling out in a very short space of time, as you’d expect.

The online retailer usually adds new stock to the website in the early hours of the morning, around 7am. So we recommend setting your alarm to be in with the chance of sniping Microsoft’s new console. Can we still call it “new”? Newest.

We’ve also heard reports of in-store drops at John Lewis & Partners, so we’d always recommend checking in with your local store on the off chance that they have any of the next-gen consoles lying about.

What about PS5 stock?

Monday 23 August 2021 14:30 , Steve Hogarty

One small consolation for Microsoft is that its biggest rival, Sony, is also facing serious supply chain issues. The PlayStation 5 is in high demand but it’s a little easier to find on the shelves than the Xbox series X.

We have a good idea of which retailers are most likely to restock the PS5 next, but you still have to be quick to grab one when they appear.

The best VPN for Xbox series X

Monday 23 August 2021 13:31 , Steve Hogarty

The Xbox series X has excellent built-in security when playing games online, but there are still reasons why you might want to install a VPN on an Xbox.

If you use your Xbox to watch Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or some other online streaming service, a VPN allows you to spoof your location and access TV shows and movies not normally available in your country.

To keep your Xbox series X running at peak performance, you’ll want to make sure the VPN you choose is fast and responsive enough to avoid lag and dropouts when playing online – check out our round-up of the best VPNs for torrenting, streaming and gaming:

Does Amazon have the Xbox series X in stock?

Monday 23 August 2021 11:19 , Steve Hogarty

The Xbox series X is very much not in stock at Amazon right now, but we still expect new stock to arrive in August.

The online retailer is overflowing with PlayStations lately – check out our PS5 stock tracker or updates – but hasn’t deigned to restock the Xbox series X since 14 July.

What are the chances of a Very restock today?

Monday 23 August 2021 10:53 , Steve Hogarty

Slim. It’s been more than a month since we last had an Xbox series X restock at Very.

The retailer restocked on 20 July, and since then it’s been all quiet on the Xbox front. According to our friends on the PS5 stock tracking live blog, the retailer is rumoured to be receiving an allocation of freshly baked PlayStations later this week. Let’s cross our fingers this means a similar resupply is on the horizon for Microsoft’s next-gen console.

We’ll keep checking for new availability at Very so you don’t have to. Stick with us for updates.

Here’s the new ‘Call of Duty: Vanguard’ trailer

Monday 23 August 2021 10:19 , Steve Hogarty

© Provided by The Independent (Activision Blizzard)

Last week, Activision revealed the newest entry in its long running shooty-gun franchise. Call of Duty: Vanguard spans four major theatres of WW2 and further departs from realism by throwing in a bunch of stuff your granddad never told you about, such as zombies.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is coming to Xbox series X on 5 November, and is available to pre-order now (£69.99, Argos.co.uk). You can pick it up as a cross-gen bundle, meaning you can start playing on your current Xbox and then upgrade when you finally get hold of an Xbox series X.

The PlayStation 5 is being treated to a playable preview of Call of Duty: Vanguard this weekend, 27-29 August. We dirty little Xbox goblins will just have to sit here and wait our turn. We’re allowed to see the alpha trailer, at least.

Will Smyths drop the Xbox series X today?

Monday 23 August 2021 10:04 , Steve Hogarty

For reasons known only to Smyths Toys, the retailer is currently more likely to restock in physical stores rather than on its website.

Last week saw the console popping up in places far and wide, including such scenic destinations as Sunderland, Bury and Sheffield. It’s worth checking your local store once in a while for updates. Right now, we can’t see stock in any UK stores.

Smyths Toys is also one of three retailers stocking the Xbox All Access programme. The console was last available to purchase through that programme on 5 August.

Does Game have the Xbox in stock?

Monday 23 August 2021 09:38 , Steve Hogarty

© Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

Game is likely to have the Xbox series X in stock this week, based on previous restocking patterns.

The retailer last restocked Microsoft’s next-generation console 10 days ago on 13 August, and 10 days before that on 3 August.

One of Game’s “tells” is how the retailer prematurely activates its “buy now” button, up to 24 hours before the console is actually available for purchase. We’ll let you know if that cheeky little button lights up.

Will Currys restock the Xbox series X today?

Monday 23 August 2021 09:11 , Steve Hogarty

Currys PC World restocked the Xbox series X on 19 August.

This is good, because the retailer had come through on a promise it had made that an Xbox restock was incoming – we like when restocks materialise after rumours.

But this is bad, because 19 August is in the past. The console sold out in 20 minutes as more than 20,000 customers swarmed the electronics retailer’s website.

Currys PC World is yet another retailer where we recommend you download the app and slip the Xbox series X into your “save for later” list. When a drop happens, the main Currys PC World site gets hammered with traffic. By using the app you can essentially sneak round the back entrance.

Argos could restock the Xbox series X tomorrow

Monday 23 August 2021 08:50 , Steve Hogarty

Over on the Stock Checker discord channel, one keen-eyed shopper spotted the Xbox series X available to pre-order at certain Argos stores in London.

© Provided by The Independent (Stock Checker)

The sighting was made yesterday, suggesting that fresh Xbox series X stock would be arriving at Argos on Tuesday. This could be an app glitch, or an indication of a wider restock on the horizon.

Download the Argos app and add the Xbox series X to your wish list, then have a poke around your local collection options to see what’s available.

The Xbox series X is currently out of stock

Monday 23 August 2021 08:35 , Steve Hogarty

It usually goes without saying, but on a Monday morning it’s helpful for us to reiterate the most basic points: the Xbox series X is currently sold out everywhere.

Our suite of stock tracking tools automatically lights up like a Christmas tree at the first sight of an Xbox. But right now, the dashboard is dark, save for the reassuring twinkle of a few standby lights.

It is beautiful, in a way.

While we wait, let’s dig into some rumours.
