Tshwane warns of potential 10-hour water supply interruptions

The City of Tshwane is poised to commence the next phase of its water infrastructure upgrade project in Philip Nel Park, situated at the junction of Transoranje and Quagga Roads, on Tuesday, 24 April.

This crucial initiative follows the initial upgrade and tie-in connection completed by the city’s technicians on 30 January.

The City of Tshwane stated that they will make every effort to minimise disruptions to the water supply, but residents in several areas may experience a temporary interruption lasting up to 10 hours, from 8:00 to 18:00.

Affected areas in Tshwane

Affected areas include Kwaggasrand, Philip Nel Park, Pretoria Industrial Township, Pretoria Industrial, Pretoria Town and Town lands 351-JR, Proclamation Hill Ext 1, Skinner Court 254-JR, VAN Zylslaagte 755-JR, West Park Extension 4, 5, 6, and 7, as well as West Park.

“The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused due to the above mentioned upgrade,” said City of Tshwane.

Water saving tips for daily routines

In light of this, the City of Tshwane urges residents to incorporate water-conservation measures into their daily routines:

  • Refrain from watering gardens or using sprinkler systems between 6:00 and 18:00.
  • Avoid washing vehicles with hosepipes.
  • Do not fill swimming pools.
  • Consider installing low-flow showerheads and tap aerators.
  • Utilise dual-flush toilet cisterns.
  • Opt for indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in gardens.
  • Use brooms instead of hosepipes for cleaning driveways or patios.
  • Collect rainwater for reuse in gardens or car washing.
  • Cover swimming pools to reduce water evaporation.
  • Choose showers over baths.
  • Turn off taps while brushing teeth or shaving.
  • Regularly inspect toilets and taps for leaks.

Furthermore, the City of Tshwane encourages residents to continue utilising greywater for gardening and toilet flushing. Installing water-saving devices wherever feasible is also advised to promote sustainable water usage practices.

By adhering to these guidelines and cooperating during the upgrade process, residents can contribute to the efficient management of water resources in the City of Tshwane.
