Chaos on Wexford roads – two roads closed, motorcyclist ‘critical’ and arrest made following two separate crashes

Two main Wexford roads are currently closed to traffic following serious crashes in the last number of hours.

The main N25 Rosslare Road was closed by gardaí following a three vehicle collision near The Coal Bunker Bar in Drinagh shortly before 8 p.m. Lengthy diversions were put in place on the busy road, the main route to Rosslare Europort, with traffic being sent down the road to Kilmore Quay.

Three adults were rushed to Wexford General Hospital for treatment. One man was arrested at the scene under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and is being detained at a garda station in Wexford.

A second man who was travelling in the same vehicle is assisting gardaí with the enquiries.

Gardaí have stated that the road will remain closed until later this (Sunday) morning as a full technical analysis of the scene is carried out by forensic collision investigators.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist is said to be in “critical condition” following a collision which took place on the R733 Duncannon Line outside Wexford at around 11.30 p.m. on Saturday night.

The single vehicle collision took place at the Redshire Road junction. The motorcyclist, aged in his 30s, was rushed to Wexford General Hospital with serious injuries and his condition was later described as “critical”.

The scene is currently closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

With this route having seen numerous serious accidents over the years and even fatalities, it was raised at a recent Rosslare Municipal District meeting by Fianna Fáil councillor Lisa McDonald who called for action to be taken once and for all.
