Bankton is one of three stretches of the A1 set to undergo resurfacing works
A major road which connects Scotland’s capital with London is set to undergo a series of resurfacing works in an effort to improve driving conditions on the carriageways.
The A1 will undergo ten nights of resurfacing at North Granthouse, Houndwood and south of Bankton junction near Tranent, East Lothian – with BEAR Scotland being responsible for the work.
The works are set to take place between March 11 and 22, and will see some roads shut between the hours of 7.30pm and 6am.
- Monday 11 – Wednesday 20 March (except Friday to Sunday nights): The A1 will be closed in both directions between Ayton Junction and Tower Farm Junction. A diversion will be signposted via the A1107, adding an estimated 9 minutes and 1.2 miles onto affected journeys.
- Wednesday 20 – Friday 22 March: The northbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed at Abbotsview Junction. A will be signposted between Abbotsview Junction and Bankton Junction via the A199, A6137, B1377 and A198, adding an estimated 8 minutes and 2 miles onto affected journeys.
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.
“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimize the impact.
“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
